  • from BT site: If you don't have broadband and you're not planning to get it, you could get a discount on a BT landline. To find out if you're eligible, call us on 0800 587 0083.

The Energy forum isn't the best place to ask about landlines !

Which? have overlooked one of the best deals, from Pulse8.

Line rental £14.40 per month, 30 day rolling contract, calls to landlines 1p/minute day, 0.8p/min evenings, no call set up fee, no rounding up to the next minute.

Calls to mobiles are 8p/min but a cheap 3G mobile phone on 3 would be better at 3p/min.

£45-£50 per month for a landline only contract?
    Who is that with?

BT charge £19.99 pm for a landline only, or you can have an optional call package. Even with all calls (to other UK landlines or UK mobiles) is only £31.99 pm

    https://www.bt.com/landline/deals/

These landline packages are for customers with broadband at home - whether it's with BT or anyone else.

Not suggesting that is the cheapest or best options for your mother, only questioning what supplier & tariff she is currently on.

Try this MSE tool (set filters accordingly) for some other deals
    https://broadband.moneysavingexpert.com/

Then have a play with it. e.g you may find a landline & broadband bundle is cheaper. No need to ever use the broadband. ;)
