Non Disclosure of SP30

Hi,
I am the main driver on my car and it has recently been stolen, my husband got a SP30 with a fine and points, and i completely forgot to tell them about it, he doesnt (didnt) really use the car.
My question is will this effect my claim if so how?
I am worried they will void it completely

I dont think the fact he doesn't use it is much of a get out.

What does the documentation say if anything about this ?

The insurers are best placed to give you a definite answer.

If he is just a named driver and the car wasn't in his care at the time then I wouldn't worry too much about it. It's very unlikely they'd void a policy for a single undisclosed speeding fine of a named driver who wasn't involved in a claim.

If he had hit someone under your policy then it could potentially have been an issue.

My sister's boyfriend had quite a bad accident as a named driver (his fault) and he hadn't declared 2 active speeding fines. Amazingly their insurer wasn't bothered. I made a point of telling them how luck they'd been!

Doesn't matter whether the named driver was involved in the claim or not.

You need to tell the insurer asap. They will then look at whether they think you did it accidentally, or deliberately and will take it from there.

If they would have increased the premium, then expect a % deduction from your payout for the car. They may void the policy if they wouldn't have offered the policy with him on it at the time.

When did your husband get the SP30 ?
( was it before the policy began or was it mid term?)
If it was mid term there is a member of another forum who claims to work in insurance and firmly asserts that you are not obliged to tell the insurance company what ever their TandC say
In fact he advises that you do not do so as you may be charged a fee to have it noted
I do not know if this is true but if I needed to know I would ask the ombudsman and the Association of British insurers
I would not take any notice of any contrary information that posted on here about this until the ombudsman /ABI has confirmed one way or another because you may get responses from the same people who tell you if the car is untaxed the insurance policy is void which is nonsense
