O/S Daily Tuesday 21st January 2020

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

DH up and gone to work stupid stupid early, DS1 getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and happy.

Dark cold and frosty start to the day again.

Dinner last night was beef stew and dumplings, new potatoes, carrots, broc and peas - all eaten and enjoyed. Tonight we'll be having omelettes - hairdresser is coming so will be a bit late eating. DH desperate for a haircut as he missed the last appointment due to being late in from work.

Work yesterday wasn't overly busy, but we had technology problems yet again and were without systems for a large part of the morning. The job I do first thing on a Monday couldn't be done either as there was problems with that too! One of the company's is sending someone out today due to the ongoing problems - we'll see if that solves anything! I'm working at the normal office today but still on my early finish so hopefully will get away on time.

Keep safe and well x

  • Morning folks and thanks NMLC. Another frost free day and I'm not sorry to see the end of that bitterly cold spell. I'm getting soft in my dotage.

Miss Sparkle seems to have an inbuilt alarm as, once again, she was doing her best to get me up at 5.00. I was already awake just not ready to get up! I think an afternoon nap is on the cards.

This morning it's my weekly meet up with my oldest friend for our usual catch up over coffees and lunch. Then maybe a wander round the few shops we have left!! There's nothing I am needing so hopefully my purse will remain shut.

I promised myself I would clean the oven before I go. Watch this space on that! (NAN I'm certainly a paid up member of the Must Try Harder Brigade, it's getting too easy to put jobs off until another day!)

Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for all in need. Take care all xx

    Good morning everyone :hello:

Yet again I have been up for hours, where has the Sandman gone? Never mind, I have used my time looking for wooden planters for Lee to grow some vegetables in and found them on a local Facebook selling group. They are going to be delivered tomorrow evening and he is going to be so thrilled and surprised.

The sloppy dogs were a huge hit last night so today I am going to make sausage and leek cheesy bake from the 2 chubby cubs new cookbook. I have really found my cooking mojo again which helps me feel a lot less useless. It's also good for me to walk around the kitchen as it strengthens my weak muscles in my legs. Plus it gives Steve a break from doing everything.

My mental health worker is coming to see me today for the first time since Christmas. I want to talk to him about the time I was in hospital as I need to process it. I just feel guilty for putting my family through it all and I know it's not rational but I think it's why I can't sleep. Anyway, it will be helpful to discuss it with someone outside the family and he is a lovely man and very easy to talk to.

As part of my resolutions for the New Year I wanted to have more contact with my sisters and brother and their families so I spent a happy hour or so ringing round. My sister who lives in Wales has tonsillitis so she is proper poorly but will be coming to stay in Devon for the Mother's day weekend so we are all going to meet up for a meal on the Saturday night. This will be the first time in years that I feel able to do this and I am already looking forward to it. It's also my nephew's birthday so I will be looking for something fab to give him.

We have some washing to do and a quick hoover and polish of the living room but that is about it. I'd like to start decluttering my bedroom as it is very messy up there with bags and boxes all over the place. I will wait till the weekend though and get some help from the kids. Hopefully it will encourage them to go through their rooms too, well, you never know :D.

Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx

Not sure what the weather is up to, I haven't looked out yet. I have, however, been doing a little more yoga - I'm so rubbish at it but it must help somewhere! Specky, I use Yoga with Adrienne videos, it's like having a friend in the living room and so many different workouts to choose from.

Lovely meet up with a friend last night, we went out around 6 and I was home at 8.30 but it's surprising how much chat we can get in!

Busy day at work yesterday, lots of the children seem to have lost the plot so it kept us on our toes. I would imagine there's more of the same today.

Have a good Tuesday, take care. XX

    Morning :hello:

It was freezing all day yesterday, the fog thinned out a bit and was more like a heavy mist. Until about 4pm, when it was proper fog again. We have frost and fog again this morning. It's very eerie, I love it :D

Miss tru has the week off, she spent yesterday catching up with her washing and giving her room a good clear out. She still had Christmas things lying around. She's lined up her many fancy toiletries – it looks like a mini shop, lol – and spare paper and cards have been put with mine. Rubbish was sorted – most made it into the recycling, I'm still on a mission to reduce black bin waste so was pleased to see this! Why can't we recycle the flimsy plastic wrappings from wrapping paper, etc? There must be somewhere that takes it, I'll look into that later.

I have a small pile of work next to me but I can't bring myself to do it. My head is still a bit fuzzy and it just feels like too much effort, lol. I leave it where it is and dip into it as and when. I'll take Scamp out first thing then get some housework done, there's not much to do today.

We're going to cook something nice for lunch and eat off lap trays while watching Aladdin. Miss tru is really looking forward to it and I will happily watch it again :D

    Good morning folks.

Apart from the cleaner coming this morning I've no real idea about my day. There's a washing load to turn on though I'll wait until after the cleaner has finished. Hoping I can get out for a walk at least.

    Happy Tuesday to everyone.
  • Good morning, it's cold here. Strange, there was a hard frost late last night, but it seems to have disappeared.
Yesterday was ok, today will be the usual Tuesday, Tai Chi, Dgs for the day, quiz this evening. I've got a little bit of shopping to do on the way home from Tai Chi.
I hope it's not slippery out there, I'm frightened of slipping and falling because I've got osteoporosis and don't want a fracture, though I know no one does !! I do have some gripper soles for my shoes though, they are very good.

I think Sparkle is the boss now TA!! Our cats always ruled the roost as well. Hope you enjoy your day out.

Anyway, hope everyone has a good day.

    Take care folks

    Morning all

Sharp frost again this morning and very very cold. Off to work for me today but I have an appointment this morning so will go in after.

DD's ex was arrested last night for criminal damage and the police have told us to be cautious, he has also threatened to take the puppy back, its part of his bail conditions now that he has no contact with dd as he is ringing or emailing her almost constantly, yesterday he sent her a big bunch of flowers at her work which she gave to the receptionist !! I didn't sleep too well as I was worried he would come here but the police have said to ring 999 if he does.

Im going to do a chicken casserole for dinner tonight I will put ours in the SC and dd's can go in the oven for an hour when I get back.

Will have a quick tidy through this morning before I go.

    Have good days all xx

    For Gintotmelinda
    Cheesy sausage and leek bake.

6 sausages, 3 leeks, 1 onion, a glass of white wine although I am going to leave this out as I don't like it, 100ml chicken stock, 2 large potatoes and 100g cream cheese.

This is a low calorie recipe so the cheese and sausages I am going to use are low fat.

Dry fry the sausages and then take them out of the pan until later. Finely slice the leeks and onion and fry them in the same pan as you did the sausages. Add a pinch of salt and cook for 5 mins. Chuck the wine in to deglaze the pan then reduce the heat, add the stock and cover the pan. Cook for another 5 mins. Thinly slice the sausages, finely dice the potatoes, add them to the pan. Let everything simmer together for around 15 mins or until the potatoes have cooked. Add some more stock if it gets too dry. Stir in the cream cheese, season and enjoy.

I am going to change it a bit by putting the potatoes in the actifry to go crispy and then adding them at the last minute and I am also thinking about adding a bit of wholegrain mustard to the sauce. Hope you like it xx
