Howdens & Discounts

Hi All,

I am in the process of buying a kitchen from Howdens as recommended by my builder.

He has told me to get Howdens to come around have them price the kitchen up , then go to another 2 local trade kitchen paces locally get them both to beat the howdens quote . then go back to Howdens and they will match and give me a much bigger discount on my original price.

Does anyone have experience doing this and is it as my builder states really necessary, to ensure i get the right price? Why can't they do it first time???

As we only want Units from them with doors etc , its quite easy to. on my invoice it states they are giving me FSC Mix 70% discount. My builder says we should get around 78/80% just for shopping around then going back to them.

If hes right then my 3k quote is 10 list price so my price should come to 2.2k a saving of £800.

Anyone with any experience that this actually works before i go travelling round spending hours getting quotes i will not get my weekend time back for :)

Thanks in advance

Remember with Howdens the discount is based on a retail price your being offered. Someone who buys more from them like a kitchen fitter may get a smaller discount but a lower starting price making it all cheaper in the long run. Nothing is simple with them!

Assuming you want a simple kitchen design all the major suppliers have then shopping around and playing them all off against each other is the obvious way to go.

Use the planner on the DIY kitchens website and get a price from there.

Howdens will price match it. I don't know why they don't give maximum discounts straight off. It creates a bit of work which we'd rather not do, but they are incredibly reliable kitchens and they make for a very simple fitting process because you can make changes on the day.

You can push for it but don't be disappointed if you don't get it. Only their top customers get anywhere close to that discount.
