Car insurance help!

If you get quotes for car insurance in one lump sum then no credit check is involved. If you ask for monthly payments then a credit check is done and based on that some insurers might not offer a quote at all, leaving only remaining more expensive insurers.
Good that you negotiated a decent quote. As mentioned, insurers (and many other service providers) charge inflated prices when they feel they can get away with it.
Changes in risk level in your area can affect your premium, for example if there's a spate of car crimes or crash-for-cash scams. Changes in your own circumstances can too, like a change of job, or of course moving house.
And if you get quotes for insurance to start tomorrow that spikes the price. I think 2 or 3 weeks in advance is usually best.0 -
My son had an accident which was his fault and the claim was settled by his insurance company,he has now received a letter from the third party statinting that his car insurance has gone up and if he doesn’t pay the additional cost he will take him to court.
Any views on this please as it is worrying my son.0 -

For the difference? It can't have gone up enough to make that worth while even if it's doubled. My son had an accident which was his fault and the claim was settled by his insurance company,he has now received a letter from the third party statinting that his car insurance has gone up and if he doesn’t pay the additional cost he will take him to court.

Your son is legally obliged to pass the letter to his insurer, unanswered. For the difference? It can't have gone up enough to make that worth while even if it's doubled.
I'd expect his insurer to reply along the lines of "S** off". But whatever they do will have no effect on your son.0
