Travel insurance question?

Afternoon everyone,

Trying to find an answer to this for my daughter.

She's traveling to Iceland this weekend and it just booking her insurance. She's gone through Compare the Market. Looking at the info on every policy they 'appear' to only state that they cover flight issues on the outbound leg? and say nothing about delays on the return leg??

What are we missing here? Surely there must be some cover for the return?

Thanks

No insurance is for late or non arrival to holiday destination, not returning home.

as you are asking about 'flight issues' it would be the airline that would be responsible, however legislation can vary
Flights from Iceland fall under EU261 so the airline would be required to provide refreshments / accommodation etc depending on the length of the delay
  • What sort of flight issues?

For delays my policy states "A delay resulting in you departing at least 12 hours after your original scheduled departure time". No stipulation it is outbound only.

Not trolling here, because I have no idea: does the thing happening at the end of this month affect UK citizens entitlement to this?

according to this article - no change
    https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/family/brexit-what-it-means-for-you/
"Regardless of whether we leave with a deal or not... the Government insists flight delay compensation rules will remain the same. It says this has been done by writing EU261 into UK law."

Under May the govt maintained EU261 would remain the same, but obviously only until/unless they decide to change the law. Currently it's like the blind leading the blind as to what will happen with anything and everything. ;)

EU261 will remain unchanged during the transition period, which is currently until the end of 2020.

The problem with insurance is significant: a couple of years ago the train taking me home from my airport of arrival was cancelled; the train company washed their hands of any responsibility; and my insurer said that I had no cover for anything relating to my journey home. This seems to be a cost-cutting wheeze introduced into policies underwritten by TIF, who dominate the listings from the comparison tools. I suggest using other ways to find insurance, using the results from the price comparison site to benchmark the price.

Above all, ensure that TIF have nothing to do with your insurance.
