O/S Daily Monday 20th January 2020

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Dark, cold and frosty start to the day again.

DH up and gone to work stupid stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS settled and ok.

Dinner last night was a peri peri spatchcock chicken, with veg rice and pasta in a creamy sauce. Tonight will be beef stew and dumplings and veg, stew - left to cook in the slow cooker whilst we're all at work.

Yesterday was lots of travelling but ok and we got home at mid afternoon, so we were able to have some chill time and get ready for work today. We'll see what today brings.

Keep safe and well x

  • Good morning, and thanks for starting NMLC.
It's bitterly cold and frosty here, but dry, yesterday was sunny all day.

I've had a bad night, but stayed in bed till 6am, as it's too cold to be sitting about the house. The heating will click on at 7am, I could put the fire on, but I've got a big fleece over my lap

Yesterday was ok, DH continued in his sorting of the old shed, you would imagine it's the size of a ballroom with the amount of stuff he had in there. He's finally emptied the shelves and taken them down, and has a pile of stuff to give away, and more for the tip.
Once the old shed is down he can access the bath and basin waste pipes from the bathroom, they need replacing, so he'll do that before placing another shed.
Not everything is getting thrown out, he's got some boxes of stuff stored in the spare room for now.

I pottered round the house - I tidied the little hellhole we call a utility room, changed the bed, and did general "stuff".

So that was yesterday - Dgs is coming this morning for a couple of hours while his Mum gets her hair done, then his sister will be here as usual after school

    And that's us really!!
Hope Sparkle is still all right TA, and thinking of Gers and her Mum.

Take care folks, and wrap up well on this chilly morning

    Good morning everyone :hello:

It's Blue Monday today, apparently the most depressing day of the year due to weather, post Christmas malaise and payday seemingly weeks away. Today I am going to practice a lot of self care and only do things that are good for me and make me happy :).

My community rehab lady is coming to take me for a walk outside this morning as long as it isn't too slippy. I am looking forward to getting out of the house even if it is just a little walk around the car park as I have been stuck in for a couple of weeks now.

I lost 3lb this week so that brings me to 9lb gone in January so far. I am starting to feel the difference now especially going up and down the stairs. My knees are not so crunchy and I don't feel like I need oxygen when I make it upstairs. I am just looking at losing a pound or two a week so I am well happy today.

I spent another happy afternoon yesterday making cards and I am planning to make some more today. It is good to have a large family as I get to make some really cute cards for my nieces and nephews. I have ordered some dies from Wish so they should be arriving over the next few weeks. They were so cheap I hope they will work as if they are ok they will save me a fortune.

I am in a cooking mood too so I will be making some soup for lunch and some sloppy dogs with Lee helping me after he comes back from college. They are basically hot dog rolls filled with a tasty pork mince filling, sprinkled with cheese and baked in the oven for a few minutes. They look lovely and we will have them with corn on the cob and a few chips. A nice tasty meal to cheer everyone up.

Right, I need some breakfast, Phoebe made me a cup of tea before she left for work so I will make some cereal to go with it. Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx

    Morning :hello:

Fog and frost this morning, it looks lovely - from what I can see, it's still dark so I'm going by the street lights, lol. I'm looking forward to a walk, I love wrapping up and ambling about in this weather. I must remember to fill my coat pocket with tissues though :D

Eating a whole meal is a bit difficult when you can't breathe properly – plus I like to really enjoy my food so it seems a waste, lol - so I'm going to cook some snack food and make a large fruit salad, I can pick at it during the day.

The washing machine is on and I have some tidying to do. I wanted to sort through a chest of drawers today but that can wait til later in the week. I'll shuffle papers about for a while then nag work blokes about paying their tax bills on time :D

  • Morning folks and thanks NMLC. It feels less cold this morning and no sign of any frost. The weekend has been bitterly cold with frost lasting all day.

Jt's a good job I am not one for sleeping in as this cat makes it clear she thinks I should be up about 5.00 a.m. and playing with her! The rescue place rang to check how we were getting on and I told her my concerns about her lack of eating. She said she is not a big eater anyway and not to worry as this happens frequently when cats are re-homed. She has the occasional nibble at the Go-Cat but the Felix she has been used to remains untouched.

AOD she's a pretty little thing. Mostly white with small black patches here and there. Plus a very long bushy black tail. And I love her to bits already!

This month is now 3 weeks in and hasn't gone to plan! My healthy eating plan lasted all of two days and the frugal spending didn't happen either, it's been one expense after another. And don't mention the decluttering which lasted half a day! I suppose you could class me as a lost cause!

Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for all in need. Dp1 I keep hoping for better news on your DGD, poor little mite. Such a worry for you all. GERS hope you feel a bit brighter. Take care all xx

    Morning All

Not as cold this morning and it's dry, the weather over the weekend was lovely and of course the washing had a good blow!

I met up with Gers yesterday for a coffee and a chat then home for a tidy up in the garden and some general pottering about. Meeting an old friend for something to eat tonight.

I've just finished some yoga (you tube videos) so I'm feeling ready for the day, no blue Monday for me!

Have a good day, take care. XX

    Morning

Blue Monday is about right its freezing and thick fog and work calls.

Didn't get round to Downton Abbey last night thanks to a friend who decided to chat to me all the way from Portsmouth to Kent on his way from a job. I did suggest some interesting radio programmes he could listen to but the hint wasn't taken  Ah well they say its good to talk ....last night it would have been good not too.

My last Christmas bag of roast dinner goodies went down well but still the freezer seems to be overflowing ....tonight is sausage casserole with some mash nice and comforting.

Right off to work...needs must. Enjoy your days all

    Morning all

Very cold and frosty here and meant to be very cold here most of the day.

Dinner tonight is the rest of the roast lamb which was very tasty yesterday its all ready it will just need heating through.

Big pups first morning at home today as dd is back at work and OH and I are both working, so she will be on her own this morning foe a few hours then dd will be working from home this afternoon.

TA I am so glad sparkle has settles so well xx

    Morning folks.

I've no idea about the weather as I've not looked out yet. By 4.00am I was still awake, lying quietly listening to a true crime podcast!

Yesterday it was so blooming lovely to meet up for coffee and chat with CAMELOT - a little haven of normality. On the way home I bought my friend Alan a bottle of single malt as a 'thank you' for all his help since my op. I'd never have managed without him doing so much. As I was leaving the shop he texted me to call in, so I did though didn't stay more than half and hour.

Later I tinkered and tweaked a spreadsheet, one of my favourite pastimes! I'd asked for help on the techie board and two people came up trumps.

I'd planned for a swim this morning, I may just swap a swim for a walk round swan lake, it's much more interesting.

Another week nearer spring :j happy Monday to everyone.
  • Good morning, it is meant to be foggy here but it is bright and clear with a hard frost. I'm not sure if the road has been gritted but the binmen are out and about (don't envy them in this weather) and that should make a difference to the icy roads. I know how cold it is because I've been out with food for the birds, in between typing, my cold hands are tucked into my armpits.

I'm now on today's second load of washing and even though sun is forecast, it will have to dry indoors. We had brilliant sun yesterday but the frost didn't melt. What the sun did though, was to show up the fact that the kitchen cupboards were grubby so I ended up cleaning those.

I'm off out later to meet a friend who lives in Worcestershire but is coming here for an appointment, we'll have coffee and a catch up.

TA Sparkle does sound pretty, clearly she has you wrapped round her tiny paw!

Hope everyone has a good day
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back
  • Good morning one and all,

My weekend was so busy I didn't really feel like I had one.

My Saturday was spent 'working'. Getting the 6am train back down to London again to meet with clients at a football game. Didn't get home till 9.30pm, so it was a very long day and I was looking forward to my bed.

But not too much rest as I was back up again early on the Sunday to play football. All went well although the uneven pitch meant I've kicked the ground pretty hard and hurt my ankle. It's just a sprain, so I'll give it a bit of time. I then had all my weeks chores to do in a short space of time before heading down to Chester for date #4. She's actually been really unwell of late so I just went to her flat and we done nothing but just chat for a few hours. Got home last night at around 11.30pm. Knackered!

So, a normal week ahead for me. No more work trips to London. My ankle will perhaps put a dampner on my gym sessions but I don't want it to stop me. I need to keep moving otherwise it'll seize up. Right. Lots of catching up to do.

Dumpling - Well done on the weight loss.
Camelot - What Youtube yoga account did you watch?
