Prescription costs or exemptions are applied at the point of collection. So if the prescription was not collected then there can not have been a false claim of exemption

Someone I know have been accused via NHS PCN of taking a free prescription somewhere in the last 2-6 months period. Given the duration of this period (5 months) and the time lapse since then, it is difficult to prove innocence.

Shouldn't NHS provide more details such as what medication was collected and when, as this will help in refreshing the memory ?
Shouldn't NHS provide a copy of signature to prove collection ?
Shouldn't NHS send such letters a bit more quickly ?

Expecting the NHS to provide supporting information is not unreasonable, but checking entitlement is a massive task. If items 1 and 2 are provided, the timescale for sending out letters is unimportant. The individual either does or doesn't have entitlement irrespective of how long ago the evidence refers to.
