Does anyone know of a reason why my husband and I should not take out individual personal loans?

  • Yes. I do.

But why not start with some details?
  • No information to go on.....

    What are the loans for?
    How much are you borrowing?
    What's your incomes?
    What's your expenditure?
Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.

Thank you for the "Yes"; that's all I needed to know really.
Hoping to buy a home we have amassed nearly enough savings for a cash offer but are short by about £50,000 and just wondered if we could have two individual loans to pay for the rest, at the time of applying saying it was for home improvements perhaps.
  • A fraudulent application?

Doesn't always go down well with lenders, though the risk is low.
  • This is all very irregular. Ordinarily one might consider getting a mortgage in joint names. It would seem that the amount required would form a small part of the overall purchase price so the likelihood of securing finance would be high and the risk (and hence the rate) low.

And by the bye, as per zx81's comment, it is against the law to lie on an application for any financial service in the UK. Don't do it!!

Understood, thank you for the help and advice.
  • Some personal loans exclude you from borrowing to purchase land or property...but not all.
  • Banks do not lend on personal loan terms for any property purchase.
If you are short - apply for a mortgage.

Thank you. We are "of a certain age" where a mortgage is not possible unfortunately. We shall go down the bridging loan route.
    Thanks again for the advice.

What certain age is that? Mortgage lenders do lend to retired people of all ages, it's just a case of finding the right lender for your age.

Best off raising the questions on the mortgage board.
