Home Insurance and AirBnB

Hi,
just a quick question,
I had my policy Void because when I'm not at home (I have an holiday home in the countryside) I rent it by AirBnB.
They said that also occaionally rent by Airbnb is a business so now I have to open a new home policy as a business one.
So I really don't understand this, everyone that use one time Airbnb has to change policy?
All these arrived after our basement was flooded in Doncaster flood (!), doesn't ask anything before have a clam.

There's a pretty useful article on this in the MSE website:
https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/family/airbnb-hosting/#needtoknow-4
There is a section that explains insurance and, yes, everyone that uses AirBNB should check their insurance arrangements to ensure they have valid cover.
Are you saying that you have a flood claim that has been rejected because your policy has been voided, leaving you uninsured and having to pay for repairs yourself?Lloyds broker working in Private Clients and Property Owners.

As above did you make enquiries in to your home insurance and if they cover you? What makes you think a business use such as being a LL will be covered by residential cover?
This will be an expensive mistake for you."It is prudent when shopping for something important, not to limit yourself to Pound land/Estate Agents"

Thank you very much for the link PrivateClient,
really didn't thought that a claim that has nothing to do with airbnb hosting was take as an excuse to void my insurance.
I had to search a more serious insurer that will accept that I rent the house with Airbnb when I'm not at home.
Yes, I'm saying that:
1) I had a claim on November 19th.
2) I had a first contact on November 21st with them telling me that they "think" that was not my main house, I explained that I live between two house (because my job is online)
3) never answered my ticket, called 5 times by phone and they answered "we'll call you back in 48h.)
3) I had a reponse voiding my insurance on December 27th, I answered and on january the 19th they declared to void my insurance.... cause is:
So I realised that I wasn't insured for months!
Please let me know if I can write the insurance name here, so other customer will aware of this!0 -
Hi csgohan4,
no didn't think that rent just when I'n not at home is same that be a LL
not the real spirit or Airbnb, also if I know that someone use it as a job, but now I'm aware of what the insurance think about it I'll find another one, declaring better all my life.0 -

did they cancel your insurance? If they did, you have to declare when asked when taking out insurance, which will make it much more expensive
not sure if this is the insurers fault in this case?"It is prudent when shopping for something important, not to limit yourself to Pound land/Estate Agents"

Yes, they will cancel my insurance, and I'll have to declare it, or I have to contest the decision, with a laywer that will cost me much more.
(insurance told me that "they believe" it's a commercial, they cannot demonstrate this because it is not true, but I don't wan't to stay with an insurance that doesn't answer me for months!)0 -
Does someone know an insurance that accept occasionally Airbnb rental?
Better not online, so I can directly speak with someone?0 -

Use google to find one, insurers will have a phone number you can use to ring.
Maybe find a forum for people who rent a property out or using airbnb and ask on there.
Theres the airbnb forum you can have a look on.0
