Registered at different address to car insurance informed

The topic of cars being insured at alternate addresses is all plain and clear. I am just unaware whether a minor detail that's missing from most other posts is paramount or not. :money: #potentialclickbaitpickupline

Over the past 5-6 years I've moved around once a year, for this reason it's been so much easier to register everything at my parents address and collect everything when I go to visit.

I now work and live away from home, not too far, maybe 8 miles ish. When I moved out, I moved to a nicer area but my car insurance nearly tripled! What a joke!

I probably ran over 100 quotes, I eventually found that if I put in the online insurance forms that my registered address was that of my parents house (as it currently is) and put on the insurance forms online that my car actually lives at a separate address (where I live) and put the reason as: "My Main Residence/Home", then the insurance works out to essentially exactly what it would be if I lived at my parents house.

So my question is, I have told the insurance my correctly registered address, I have told the insurance the address the car lives at and I have told them the reason the car is living there. Is this an issue?

My renewal is coming up and honestly, the horrible financial mess I was in last year is resolved now so I can probably afford to pay twice the car insurance I paid when living at my parents house. But we are talking a rather large sum of money for potentially no benefit.

Is this massively fraud ridden or is this a fault of the system? When I bought the cover last year I even asked the representative over the phone whilst purchasing this whether I'm allowed to be registered at a different address to that of my car and she said it was fine and processed it through anyway. It still feels quite dodgy though. Nothing comes for free. :silenced:

TL;DR
Registered everything at parents, live elsewhere but nearby, told the insurance company through online forms that my registered address is parents, that my car lives at my address and the reason it lives here is because it's my main location/home. Despite being told having my registered address on policy as my address is fine by representative, even though car is registered elsewhere. Is this fraud? It halves my insurance costs.

Any thoughts?:A

As long as you have correctly stated where the car is kept then you should be OK.

I agree as long as you've stated correctly where the car is usually parked overnight then it's fine. I had for a few years where I kept my car at a different postcode to where I lived (it was only around the corner but different postcodes due to lack of parking on my road) and I just used both postcodes and it was fine.
Indecision is the key to flexibility :)
  • Just not sure why the cost goes down as much as it does, unless the insurance judges the person based on where they live and not just the environment surrounding them.
I suppose if it's ok, then I'll stop asking questions.
