Wire Cutting Tool

Options
Hi,

Bit of an odd one, I've just taken delivery of a second hand table. The table has what looks like a staple coming out of the table top, I need to remove it.

There is no sign of this "staple" underneath the table, so I cannot pull it out that way.

I've tried to pull it out using pliers from the top but I am guessing both pieces are connected so that isn't going to work.

I was wondering if I could grind down the staple, or cut it so it isn't proud of the surface, my wife was going to paint the table in any case so some minor damage to the surface isn't an issue.

What tool would be best for this? I think they are too thick for normal wire cutters.

I've attached a photo.

Thanks for any advice.

The table wasn't expensive but would rather repair if possible.
