Newer car - no service booklet - how to show service history?

We bought a new Skoda Superb in 2016. It's the first car we've had that didn't come with a service booklet (for garages to fill in and stamp when they do a service). The first few services have been done at Skoda dealers and they've given us a print-out of the updated service history, printed from Skoda's computer systems.

Car's a few years old now so we'd normally start taking it to independent garages. However, presumably they won't have access to that service history and they can't add their services to it?

How does it work these days in terms of proving service history if we sell the car? Would buyers/dealers accept the initial Skoda service history then annual receipts from services?! It's going to be a messy pile of paperwork in a few years... (Though I am that person who keeps every single receipt for every minor repair ever done to a car :D)

I never trust the service book alone - it's far too easy to buy stamps from ebay. A phone call to the dealer is needed to verify that the service happened.

    Receipts are much better.

Are you sure the service details aren't recorded on the car's onboard system.

I'm not sure - we'll have a look through the menus. It prompts us when it needs a service but our older (2012) car also does that.

My Insignia shows a service interval countdown (in %) but there's no menu to show service history. It might be available though via an OBD reader.

I've always kept all the receipts then passed them on when selling. Ten years of paperwork isn't that daunting.
Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.
  • Car dealer here..

As long as there is paperwork to prove the service was done that is good enough. Just don't chuck the receipts away. There should be good print outs if what was done, mileage, etc. Just make sure your local indie provides a detailed breakdown.

Thanks, all. We always keep all receipts (not just services - any repairs/replacement parts) so have a stack of paperwork for each car. I just liked the old-fashioned service booklet as a handy summary!

We won't worry about non-dealer services not updating the Skoda service history though. :)

You can always buy a Skoda service book from the likes of ebay.
