O/S Daily Friday 17 January 2020
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Morning everyone
Hugs to all those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Dark and damp underfoot.
DH and DS1 getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 still in his pit.
Dinner last night was pie, chips, veg and gravy - all eaten and enjoyed. Not sure what we'll be having tonight, something quick and simple possibly omelettes.
Yesterday was quite productive, but still more to do today but not too bad. We have the heating engineer coming to service the boiler and hopefully sort out why the thermostatic controller has just stopped working ..... so know we'll have a bill to pay. Once the engineer has gone there's stuff to do.
Keep safe and well x

Morning folks and thanks NMLC. Yesterday was bitter cold all day, am hoping today is a bit milder.
A quickie from me. The DGDs will be to rouse up shortly, then feed and water and get organised for school. Once I have recovered from the ordeal I have the pleasure of the Friday Tidy. I hate Fridays!
Then later this afternoon DS is taking me to collect my new friend Sparkle! I am as excited as a kid at Christmas! DD's friend has loaned me a cat carrier for the occasion but I must buy one myself sometime. I have spent enough this week with all I have bought her, plus the Cat Rescue costs (chipping, neutering and injections)
Have a good day folks ((HUGS)) for all in need and take care one and all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning All
Happy Sparkle Day! I hope the little kitty brings you much love and joy TA.
Gers - I hope you have a better day, there aren't many out there who would give up so much for their DM.
Busy evening yesterday, went to visit a poorly colleague after work (who is doing remarkably well) then on to meet DS1, DD & Partner and of course baby Sophie for something to eat. Good chat and decent food plus I had a voucher for 50% off the meals. DS1 stayed here last night, he was up and out early for work.
Friday again, this week seems to have gone so fast with not a lot achieved, must try harder!
Take care. XX0 -
Good morning and thank you for starting the thread nmlc.
Gers you are a wonderful daughter, you have given up so much to care for your mum as well as having pretty major surgery, you can't be expected to have a huge grin all the time.
Nelski, my late mother had a very sweet tooth, she would skip proper meals in favour of treats.
TA I think the dreaded Friday Tidy might go a bit faster because it is Sparkle Friday. Hope so anyway. Mine isn't going to happen, more of an Ignore it Friday.
It is dark still and cold. I'm a bit tired after a bad night and I've been struggling with one of those colds that just drag on with a stuffed up nose and painful sinuses, so my face is a bit puffy. Not a great look and I'm meeting a friend today. If fine, we are meant to be going for a walk but if not just somewhere for a quick lunch. The forecast is not great so probably just lunch and nattering. Tomorrow I'm working, then going to see another friend, more friend activities next week, plus work.
Squirrels have been at the peanut thing on the bird table and by the look of it, they are trying to remove the wire mesh, they are very naughty. I don't mind a bit about them eating things, they are welcome but I'd really prefer them to just eat rather than destroy and eat.
Hope everyone has a good day and looking forward to Sparkleday news.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Good morning
nmlc, your meals always sound good, and so organised. None of my scrabble about in the freezer and see what I can find!
TA, what an exciting day. Sparkle will be the best loved cat in the West Riding, probably in the whole country! Enjoy your new friend.
Bit of an adventure today. Going to collect a coffee table we ordered before Christmas. The firm making it has moved to a new workshop. It's only about 30 miles away but somewhere we've never been before. Here be dragons country. I'm sure Mrs Satnav will find it for us.
Have a good day everyone. I'm sure TA will!0 -
Morning
TA How exciting :T I think you need to dress appropriately and get your sparkle on to mark the day....I bet the girls could help with some added bling
Happycas enjoy your magical mystery tour
AOD yes I think you're right a bag of murray mints and a glass of red is clearly the preferred option  Strange really as when we were kids we weren't allowed sugar other than one dip in a boiled sweet tub once a week and she never ate anything sweet at all
Enjoyed the pasty and beans last night Tonight its HM doner kebab on pitta with salad and chilli sauce, soup for lunch.
Today plan is to do a bit more work then join you all in a Friday tidy. Washing on already so at least Ive done something
Have a great day all its a sparkly Friday0 -
Good morning everyone!
I returned late last night from a 2 day work trip around London. It was pretty manic, running (literally at times) from one meeting to another. So I was thankful to get to my own bed last night and zonk out.
No gym this morning as I needed to catch up on my sleep but I'll go tonight for a bit. There's football on so I'll just sit on the bike and watch that rather than sitting on the couch. An early night tonight as I am back down to London tomorrow to watch football, for work, honest. Can see it far enough if I'm honest.
Right, lots of catching up to do.
TA - Enjoy your time with Sparkle!0 -
Morning all
Raining here and set in for the day I think I have a load in the wm but it will have to go in the TD.
DD and I will go food shopping this morning and then once back we will take the pup up to the park for a run then come home for a rest this afternoon.
We will have a quick tidy through this morning, it is surprising how much mess one puppy can make !!
TA I am so excited for sparkle day !! Hope all goes well please let us know xx
Gers honestly you deserve a medal !! you do so much for your mum and have given up so much !! Im not sure I could do it, big hugs xx
Have good days all xx0 -
TA happy Sparkle day.
My mum was another in the sweet tooth brigade, she used to push her type 2 diabetes as far as she could. She did still cook herself proper meals right to the end though, interspersed with M & S ready meals I used to get her. It will be 5 years since she died at the end of this month, it hardly seems possible.
We'r off to see Laura and Esben this morning, Brian is going to a funeral in Exeter so it would be a long day for her without us going. We're going to Yorkshire for the week on Sunday so it will be nice to see them before we go. Steve will walk Ziggy while I pack and then we'll shoot off (sans laptop so I won't be back today).0 -
Morning Everyone,
Well it is Friday again.
Today it is the anniversary of the day my dad died, he was only 60. It was many years ago, but you never forget the day your loved ones die.
My DD and her BF are up for the weekend, they are popping in for a takeaway tonight and we are meeting them on Sunday morning before they go home - we are going to have brunch.
TA Hope everything goes well with bringing home Sparkle day
