Bali Christmas/New Year 20/21

I have the chance of a free gaff in Bali for the Christmas and New Year holidays at the end of the year.
I know it's a very busy and expensive time for flights so would be grateful for any tips on best routes, times and when flights become available etc.
We have a small degree of flexibility just outside the school holidays if necessary.

Thanks in advance.

December and January are peak period for Bali. Is that a problem? Not if you like rowdy drunken young Australians!

Bali is so close to Western Australia, that young Aussies descend on Bali in their droves. The main tourist areas in the South of Bali [Kuta and Legian] will be packed out, but neither resort is that nice anyway. Far too congested.

You could look at Sanur for the beach, and Ubud an hour inland for the scenery and culture. Sanur is less than an hour from the Airport, is long and narrow, with quite a nice 5 mile boardwalk along the beach. The beach is also protected from the surf. Ubud is very scenic, with a 1,000 shades of green, but it also gets congested with traffic, coach trips, and day trippers from the resorts.

So you could split your time between Sanur and Ubud. I would.

As for getting to Bali from UK, you're best looking at what's available on Skyscanner, and then booking direct. Looks to me that connections are always required, which might make a one or two night stop-over enrolee an attractive option. We flew with Garuda via Amsterdam and Jakarta, but I don't think you can do that now, and in any case I wouldn't recommend that route.

We had a month altogether.....a week in Sanur, a week in Ubud, a week or so in Java, and finished off in Legian. Enjoyed it, but not in any hurry to return.

You'll have the option of flying with a Middle Eastern airline (Qatar, Emirates etc) which will give you a couple of flights of equal-ish duration or flying with Thai, Cathay Pacific, Singapore etc which will be long flights from the UK then short onto Bali.
    We prefer the latter.
We had great flights from MAN on Singapore with short connections in Oct 2018. Not sure of current schedules.

It just depends on what suits you.

You can get a Business Class flight on Philippine Airlines for £1,956, which ain't bad.
Also with Lufthansa you can find that the long haul part of the flight to and from Germany to Bali will be using SIA on a codeshare and be cheaper than the SIA flight only option.
It's your money. Except if it's the governments.

That's a good tip thanks - I'll watch out for that.

Looks perfect, with Ubud and the more interesting parts of Bali easily accessible.
