I applied for an IF credit card online yesterday and was accepted with a £7500 credit limit. I could really do with at leat £9000. Has anyone managed to increase their credit limit with IF?

Not with IF but I have with other cards, just ask when you get the card, advise them that you need more to pay off another card/loan, etc. When offered a card you sometimes have a shadow limit which may be the same as the limit or higher which is what it can be increased to at your request. I know RBoS used to do this from experience.
