    Good morning folks.

Already had a difficult start to the day with DM. The final straw was her telling me (again) to smile. Sometimes, well most of the time really, I don't feel like smiling! I've been away from my own home since last March apart from two short visits. I'm caring for her, full time, watching her slowly fade away, dealing with her finances, house repairs, serving her visitors, doing everything. I really don't begrudge it, however a command to 'smile' is just too much, especially as she says it often.

Right, rant over! DM fed and watered and I'm heading to the shower. There's another visitor this afternoon so things need to be ready. I've done my exercises, filled my water bottles, washed the dishes, folded the clean bed linen and put a load of cardboard in the blue bag.

    Happy Thursday to everyone.

    Morning all
It's a horrible damp day here, it's so dark that I have the lounge light on !
Dad did come to tea and enjoyed the casserole, at least I know he's had healthy food. He would also live on rubbish, but he likes savory stuff. He loves prawns wrapped in lettuce and topped with a dollop of seafood sauce..... but for every day . Not much nutrition in that.
DGS turned up here this morning instead of school, as he has a dreadful barking cough. He's munching his way through an ice pop at present, whiling away the time til lunch when hot dogs are the order of the day :rotfl:. Apparently I was coughing in my sleep too so there may be something going round :(
I have finished off one of my xmas candles and left the jar soaking in the sink, smells like vanilla still. Was supposed to be Winter Wonder I think, whatever that smells like ?
I have filled the DW and pressed go :D. Don't know if much else will get done today, but I shall potter about with my nurses hat on........makes a change from go-fer, cook and bottle washer :rotfl:.
Hope everyone has a good day
Healing vibes to the poorly people and hugs to all.
    Take care all :D

  • My goodness the wind must be coming from Siberia, its flipping freezing out. The road to the next village is flooded again, it had only just dried up from the last storms.

Trip to Aldi for a shop, came in £6 over my weekly allowance, and there are 2 more weeks to go!! I did buy a leg of lamb for Sunday, (deffo off their chicken), the lamb was £8, it will do two meals and a pan of scotch broth, so thats really not too bad.

I have downloaded a design for a project on the embroidery machine, its a try out of it works I will be making a couple more. So this afternoon I will be in the sewing room watching the machine sew and reading. I am not confident enough to leave the machine whilst its stitching.

Cleaner came so we are bright and sparkling again.........

Supper tonight will be some of the beef casserole I cooked yesterday with veggies.

I feel for you. I've been reading here for a long while before I started posting, and I've often thought what a wonderful daughter you are. It's clear you love your own home, but you have left it to care for your mother. You have had such a lot to cope with this last year, it's no wonder you don't always feel smiley.

    I hope I haven't spoken out of turn, as a newbie. I think you're a star!

Afternoon all! Day two of getting up early didn't work but by next week I'm going to be up at seven thirty without fail...[maybe...no! think positive!]
Didn't eat enough food yesterday, went to asda after fetching the freecycle thing and nearly fell over in there, I'd had scrambled eggs for breakfast but hadn't eaten anything since..Lesson learned...I bought stuff to make kimchi again, the stuff I made last time was lovely, but far too hot so I'm going to lay off the red pepper flakes a bit this time.
Sticthc and B*tch tonight, I have a cowl that's coming along, it's come along faster if I did more of it in the house, but I feel like I have to take something with me, even if it ends up more B*tching than stitching most weeks..Will have to rebook sewing lessons again in a couple of weeks...
Oh is a but freaked out today, you know when you have those dreams where they linger after you wake p..he dreamt my mother told him a bientot or words to that effect and she ran over and gave hime a big hug..He was ok with that until I told him it meant see you soon, so now he's in the surperstitious grip of death.....Told him not to be a wally, she was italian, not french....she wouldn't have said that :)

LWW, glad the painkillers are working, I could probably do with some of those sometimes..TA, you are going to have to put your recipe for the bogbake up one day, I want to try it too! Nelski, my nan went like that, and my [welsh] auntie is now, all sweet stuff, no substance...nanny, after the lurgy, I have the cough. The doc in the hospital on Tuesday said she's had it for 3 months...hope yours doesn't last that long! Glad your antis are working happycas..Scarlet, congrats on the decluttering...[note to self..must try harder!] Gers...I feel your pain....it's just so wearing, not being at home, having an op on top of that AND looking after your mother with all the emotional upheaval that entails...Hey all reading along...Tarrying Thursday...

Oh Gers my heart goes out to you. The amount you have done for you mum is incredible alongside your own health issues and having to leave your home. I'm afraid I could never do all you do for my mum. You're an angel and whether you smile or not makes not a tap of difference. Huge hugs

On a lighter note maybe get one of those cardboard faces on a stick of you smiling. :A

Gers have the biggest of big hugs from me too.
  • Afternoon all. First of all big ((HUGS)) for Gers. I know first hand what hard work it is looking after an elderly mum. I had it for about 14 years, at the same time as working and looking after a family. I was not appreciated for all I did. Whatever I did it was never enough. I pray I don't end up like that. Was there ever an outcome to your request for respite care? A week in your own home every couple of months would be lovely for you.

SCARLET and TAFF I don't have a recipe for the Bolognese Bake. I just make a pan of Bolognese sauce and when ready I cook the pasta. Stir them together in a large baking dish and top with a very cheesy sauce. Pop in the oven to warm up and brown the topping.

My quick shopping trip to Aldi extended, as it often does with DD! I just want a couple of things from Asda as well, she said. We just got there in time to find a freezer stuffed full of goodies (mostly big packs of Xmas buffet food, assorted cakes and large gateaux( ys down to 50p or 90p. DD was throwing all sorts of stuff in her trolley, at the same time saying I dont know where it will go my freezers are full! I was more restrained with just myself to feed most of the time. We both came home to re-arrange our freezers to try and get all her bargains in! I warned her all the cakes she has stuffed into mine may not be there when she comes back for them!!

I now have my feet up until it's time to put tea on for the arrival of the starving hordes. I feel very tired after another rubbish night but don't want to nod off at this stage of the day.

Have a nice evening folks xx

You've all made me cry! Thanks so much for your lovely comments, they all mean so much. Normally I wouldn't vent but, somehow, this morning was a step too far. DM sulked for a while before pulling herself together. She even said how much she enjoyed her lunch.

The visitors were lovely, such cheerful folk. Again it was wonderful to hear chattering and laughing from DM's bedroom. I had planned for a walk when the visitors were here but heavy rain just started and hasn't stopped yet. Instead I've used the time to scan and email some documents, order a new book, ordered a new handbag :o and clear out some stuff for the CS.

    Once again :T

EDIT - respite care never happened, social work need six weeks notice!
