New passport name change without enrolled deed poll

Hey,

I changed my surname after marriage (so did my wife) and I’m in the process of renewing my passport.

I got an application form from the local Post Office with a guidance book and with regards to proof of a name change, the following are mentioned:

Enrolled deed poll
Change of name deed signed in both your old and new names

I have not enrolled my deed poll. Is the second bit of evidence a deed poll that has not been enrolled?

Thanks. :D

  • How have you changed your name?

    Hyphen yours and your wife's?

  • Deed poll. I used an online service. But, the deed polls have not been enrolled. However, the website does say that it will be accepted to get a new passport.

Does “change of deed name signed in both your old and new names” refer to a deed poll that has not been enrolled? It appears so because the deed poll mentions my former new and my current name.

    Hi
I'm about to do this! Can you tell me if the Passport office accepted your deed poll or did it have to be an enrolled one please? The advice is so conflicting about this! Thank you!  :)

The online services are for a change of name deed.
An enrolled deed poll is more complicated process.
You don't need to do both, the change of name deed will suffice for getting a new passport.

Your deed poll will be fine for the passport office.  Problems are only likely to arise in the future if you lose it.  That’s why some people go to the expense and faff of enrolling.  Enrolling a deed poll means there is a permanent record that you can use in the future should you lose the deed poll itself.
