HMRC - do they send a bill/demand?

Hi

I have completed my tax return and have tax to pay. The HMRC website says that it takes 72 hours to ensure the return is processed. It has been a little longer than that but I have had no acknowledgement that it has been processed (although I have had acknowledgement that my submission was received). Do I wait for a bill/demand, or do I just go ahead and pay? I would appreciate advice from a small business owner/self employed person.

You need to pay it. They won't send you a bill so close to the payment date. They sent out demands/reminders back in November/December. If you havn't submitted your return by then, you'd have received a generic reminder with a blank payslip to use. If you don't pay, they'll send you a reminder/demand eventually, but probably March by which time interest and late payment surcharge would also be due.
