Just to point out that the OP asked for advice 2 years ago and has not logged onto MSE since 15/1/2020.

And I don't agree that you need the help of qualified specialists to change your diet.

The best bit about running is you will get out what you put in.

I haven't changed my diet and do about 20 miles a week. Not only has my mental health improved but I've lost nearly a stone. I didn't particularly need to lose weight, nor did I set out to lose weight as a result, but it's dropped off me without really trying.

Keep pounding the pavements but be careful and build sensible. Do too much like I did last year and you'll end up with shin splints!

And the OP still hasn't logged on for 2 years.
  • I think it depends on the person and the discipline you have. Everyone loses weight at their own pace and you should do it at a pace you are comfortable with. Setting small goals is also a good idea as then you aren't putting too much pressure on yourself to achieve what might seem like the impossible i.e trying to lose 5 stone seems really hard, where as if you say you want to lose 5lbs in 3 weeks, and you lose more, you will end up feeling great about yourself because you've beaten your goal! Getting a calorie counter app like Nutra Check can also be really helpful as I find that sometimes there are calories that aren't accounted for but then when you log every single thing, you realise where those extra ones have come from!

Good luck in your weight loss journey!
