Upgrading my passport application

I have made a standard passport renewal application but then received a job offer that I don’t want to miss.

I asked passport office if I could upgrade my application and they said yes but I will still have to wait 5 days for them to process my old passport.

Has anyone else upgraded his/her passport application before? Any tips?

One of my friends did something similar... the processes within the passport agency are complicated, and changing things once they have started is messy. To make things worse, the people who actually do the work do not communicate with "customers": if you telephone the passport agency you speak to someone who then passes on a message to the caseworker, and if the caseworker requires any details from you they send a message back, and these messages often get garbled and misunderstood. If they promise a five-day turnaround then they are likely to meet that target, but it is unlikely that you will get anything faster.

If you've already sent your passport then it may be tricky. There are 1 day services you can do if you still have your passport - but if you've already paid you might not be able to do the one day service.

The service for a 1 day passport is £100 more than the standard renewal, and it all depends when appointments are available at your nearest passport office.

If you have already sent your passport in it should not take 5 days to process it. You should get a call back within 24 hours asking for the upgrade fee as long as you application has been processed. Call them back or go on to Twitter. It’s only child applications that have to be in for five days before they can be upgraded

The upgrade is the same as the premium service. She can opt for the premium service if she Wishes but she would have to pay again before the appointment would be made and then get a refund of the postal application fee
