Ryanair seat allocation

hi there have flown with Ryanair for many years but have just realised i didn't select seats for flights leaving Friday and returning next week.
There are quite a few seats still available and I was wondering whether to wait and see which seats we are 'randomly' allocated, choose which is the better out of the two and then purchase a seat next to it? Or is it a matter of either buying seats for all travellers on the same booking, or them all being randomly allocated.
Probably made it sound confusing but basically think it will save me the cost of one seat.
Has anyone done this?

What if there isn't a free seat next to either of them? Will sitting apart matter to you?0

good point! I suppose there could be a sudden rush of people booking seats in the next 24 hours0

I would be surprised if you could choose one seat but leave the other to chance,#2 Saving for Christmas 2024 - £1 a day challenge. £325 of £3660

the closer you get to flying the betetr the seats seem to be- I often check in and we given to adjacent aisles. Check in early and get offered 2 middle seats. Even got emergemcy exit seats together wghen checking in very late to a busy flight0

I'm pretty sure that even after you've checked in, you can still move seats, so if there's an available seat next to one of you, you could pay to move the other person into it. Was the case a couple of years ago when they started the random allocation nonsense.0
