Kitchen back door - Composite or PVC

Hello folks,

I'm planning to replace my PVC kitchen door. I've been quotes about £500 for PVC door and £1200 for composite door.

Considering it's for the back of the house, are composite doors really worth double?

If you have a detached house then a composite door would be better as its got a higher level of security, otherwise a upvc door will be fine.

I would go with the composite door. They are far more secure and to me UPVC just looks dated now. If you are going to the effort of replacing the door, you may as well go for the best you can get.

Whichever door you go for check the specification of the locks and locking mechanism.

waste of money imo to get composite as a back door. You can get a good pvc with a wood slab which is a slightly better and more secure pvc door.

What has the detachment of the house got to do with the level of security required?

We fit composite back doors to council houses, but we pay about the UPVC price you’ve been quoted for these.

I dont think the door itself makes much difference to security, if anyone wants to break in then they can simply smash the glass. I think I will go for uPVC and ask a "wooden slab" to be in the door frame as someone already suggested. About £1000 for a door is too much if it's just a normal run of the mill house.
