Payment protection after a balance transfer

Hi, hope you can help with this question
I have paid for our holiday flights on a credit card. Not a package deal, so no ATOL operator cover. They would be covered by credit card payment protection I think. But before I take these flights I'm moving my credit card balance to a new card for a new 0% interest transfer deal, and closing the old credit card account.
So, will the flights still be covered by payment protection when I have my new credit card?
Thanks for any advice!

You mean s75 protection, payment protection is a completely different thing. If the transaction is covered by s75, not all are, then it remains with the card you made the transaction. A BT is really only paying off the card, exactly as you normally would. So yes, you would remain covered.0

Don't cancel the credit card - some airlines want to see the card you paid with at checkin. I nearly scuppered a holiday to Oman doing this - luckily I hadn't actually cancelled the card but I had cut it up and binned it. The replacement card arrived the day before we flew.I’m a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Pensions, Annuities & Retirement Planning, Loans

You will still be covered for either a chargeback (Most used option on airline going bust) or S75. But this will be against the card provider that the transaction was made on.
So keep ALL details.
I would not close the account till you have had your flights. Just makes things a lot easier in terms of refunds etc.Life in the slow lane0 -
Why the rush to close the original credit card account as soon as you have transferred the balance from it? Obviously this card was of benefit to use to book the flights so that you could transfer the amount to another card, so why close it? It may be of use to you again for a similar purpose. .
Payment protection is PPI. I'm sure you don't mean that so am assuming you mean s75 or chargeback protection. Transferring the balance won't affect this, but closing the card that you used to make the purchase could cause various potential difficulties in having to explain to all concerned that you had closed the credit card account that you used to book the flights and have to deal with a credit card company after you had closed their account not to mention what you would do if the airline were to ask to see the credit card that you used to make the booking with at any point. It's almost as if you want to make tings difficult for yourself.0 -
I agree with the other posters, keep the card for a bit. I had flights booked and then my card was cancelled (due to fraud) and I no longer had the card to get a refund I needed. It just made everything much more complicated.0
