O/S Daily Tuesday 14th January 2020

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Still dark, damp and blustery - but doesn't sound as bad as last night, we had a while last night where it was awful. Not so noisy this morning.

DH and DS1 getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here, working at the other office today which is quite welcome as we yet again had problems with the technology and at the other office we didn't need to use that. I walked in yesterday morning to it not working right but was able to sort it myself and got it and ready to work for when we opened, but then we had problems again at closing time and we had to get the helpdesk to sort it and that was still ongoing as we left the office last night, so those that go in this morning will need to sort it before they open. DS2 still in his pit.

Dinner last night fish, chips/jacket potato, beans/veg - tonight I'm not sure but need to sort something. DS2 possibly going out for dinner with friends, so 1 less to cater for.

Keep safe and well x

  • Good morning and thanks for starting NMLC - hope you have a good day at work.

Weather seems a bit quieter this morning, it was terrible during the early evening last night,

After school yesterday we took Dgd to a nearby shopping centre to buy new trainers for her birthday, and of course dined at McD's,, I don't mind a McD now and again.

Tai Chi starts again today so I'll be going there, then when I get home Dgs will be here for his usual Tuesday visit. We'll go out for a walk this afternoon weather permitting, Usually he happily sits in the pushchair looking round, We'll be out tonight to the quiz.

That's it really, hope everyone has a good day

    Take care folks
  • Morning folks and thanks NMLC. We have escaped Storm Brendan here (for now) but hope any of you in his path didn't suffer any damage and stayed safe. It certainly looked a violent storm looking at TV coverage.

No cooking day for me being Tuesday. Usual meet up for coffees and lunch with oldest friend. We plan on trying the other new Winter Warmer today - think it was leek and ham in a cheesy sauce with saute pots. As usual there will be much talking involved.

DD took me shopping yesterday for cat supplies and I spent a small fortune! As well as food and, of course, treats, I got a scratching post, litter and tray, toys and dishes. ILC we have always had cats and dogs so I know full well who will be boss around here when Sparkle joins me! The rescue centre took all my details for the chip yesterday and asked if I wanted to change her name. Sparkle isn't a name I would have chosen myself but I have got used to it now, so Sparkle she stays! I can collect her on Friday and I can't wait!

Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for all in need. Hope things are going as well as they can for Dp1's DGD. Take care all xx

Still rough out there, hope everyone is safe and well.

So pleased you fell in love with Sparkle TA, she sounds adorable. I've never had a cat and am a bit wary of them which of course they always know!

Work was unbelievably busy yesterday, I was glad when it was time to go home. I went to see Sophie briefly, she cheered me up with her smiles.

Another busy day ahead but at least the day passes quickly. Have a good Tuesday, take care. XX

    Morning folks.

The wind and rain are still very much present still. Mind you, my own place had it even worse. There's video footage of huge waves breaching the A83 at Inveraray bridge and also the horrendously dangerous conditions at Ardrishaig. Both parts of the toad were closed for a while and then subject to convoys only. Scary stuff.

This morning the cleaner is coming. Only two more weeks for her, plus this week, as DM's usual cleaner is coming back in February.

Apart from that there's not much happening. I'll spend some time walking backwards and sideways!

TA. - exciting times for you and Sparkle. You'll make great companions for each other.

    Happy Tuesday to all.

    Morning all

Really bad night here storm wise and it still seems fairly bad now it is due to rain most of the day today as well.

Off to work for me and its nice quiet Tuesday !! we have to make Tea=cakes and panini today.

Dinner tonight will be the filled pasta with garlic bread and salad so no great effort there.

Must do a wash tonight and have a sweep through.

    Have good days all xx
  • Good morning everyone.

OH and DS are away from yesterday to this evening so I had a busy day yesterday, having left most of the Friday Tidy to do it this week, much easier somehow. Now I have a sparkling bathroom and a tidy kitchen, though the kitchen floor will benefit from a wash, which I'll do later.

We had howling winds and either hail or falling ice yesterday afternoon, the roads here were white but it melted overnight. I think it might have been pretty localised. Calmer now but the forecast is pretty dire for later on.

I woke up a lot last night, probably because of being on my own but in between, what sleep I did have was quite good so am ready for the day. I need to crack on really to make the best of the day.

TA I bet you can't wait for Friday! Sparkle sounds very sweet.

Hope everyone has a good day.

    Morning

Think we have escaped the ravages of the storm but as its still dark its tough to say.

Good day yesterday with the added bonus of a tax refund which will help this quiet time. Also managed to book a course for the end of the month

So much the same today work wise. Mum day tomorrow and want to take some proper food as her diet is pretty awful so I dragged out the chicken carcass from the freezer last night and did an overnight slow cooker stock which I will convert today into chicken and mushroom soup. Ill also some rocky road for her with all the Christmas biscuits and some Christmas cake in as she has a dreadful sweet tooth now but hey at 89 who cares

Gers Have you tried twerking yet? Maybe thats next week :D
TA Sparkle is a very lucky cat ...let me know if you decide to adopt a human
nanny thank you and you're right positive attitude all the way

Hope everyone stays safe in this stormy weather

    Morning :hello:

It was very wet and windy yesterday, we managed to time one walk perfectly but got a bit soggy on the second one. Our road was very busy at about 4.30pm for a couple of hours, found out later that a tree had come down in the wind and blocked the main road so everyone was diverted down here.

It's calm at the moment but wind and rain is forecast from lunchtime. I'll get some sweeping and raking done before it starts. My poor chickens must be fed up with having to hide under their little shelter for most of the day, the least I can do is try to get rid of sloppy mud and give them something to peck around in.

I've cleaned the kitchen and bathroom, apart from the shower which I'll clean while I'm in it :D I'll leave work til this afternoon, I want to be outside for as long as possible this morning. I still have lots of mini versions of food in the freezer – pizzas, sausage rolls etc. so I'll cook some of those later, they'll do for snacks over the next few days.

  • NELS if this human happens to be an 89 year old lady with a preference for bananas then the answer is a profound NO!!! I did more than my share with my own DM! x

  • Morning everyone,

Left work sharpish yesterday and was on the phone to my step-dad for an hour before I had to leave the flat again to get to yoga. Got home afterwards and went straight to my bed.

A new years resolution of mine us to go to the gym more consistently in the morning, allowing myself 1 duvet day a month, which I used this morning as I was shattered. Dozed for a couple of hours before getting up and having breakfast for a change. I think I need to leave work pretty sharp again today as I've got a training day with The Reserves. Not too sure what to expect but I'm told it's a classroom environment so shouldn't be too bad.

Just notice that e.on have charged me £150. I recently switched from them to BG and I'm confused as to why this may be? Cancellation charge? Had I been underpaying? Need to phone them

Happycas - The jobs are dotted all over, but none are in Scotland. Most are in London, some others in cities around England and 2 are in America. We'll see.
