Money not taken from bank account from purchase at large retailer

Hello
Back in October, I made a purchase from a large UK retailer for a homeware item costing around a couple hundred pounds.
The amount went into my 'pending' section on my bank account, however a couple of days later the amount was no longer in the 'pending' section, and the money had not been taken out of my bank account.
I think the situation is that they can take it out of my account whenever for up to 6 months and then after up to 6 years they can take it after contacting me.
Obviously I have no issue with paying this and will ensure I keep the money in my bank account, however I was wondering if anyone had had any similar experiences and if so, was the money taken out eventually? Did the company contact you before to explain what had happened?
Thanks

I've had a smaller purchase that I had forgotten about taken out later, maybe around 2 months later.
I checked back through my account and yep it hadn't gone out previously so obviously I let it stand.
Having checked up on this could happen occasionally I was clued up it could happen again. I tend to check at least every two days on my main spending account that it's up to date with purchases being debited.0 -

Who was the large retailer ?0 -
I filled up the car with petrol once at the local supermarket (self serve I think it was) and I didn't get charged for it at all in the following week and AFAIK I still haven't paid for it...
I think this happens on occasion if the payment machines get confused or can't talk to another computer, I dare say they're supposed to hold it in an offline queue somewhere and somebody needs to tell the machine to process it and if they don't...0 -
I once had an OCADO food delivery payment taken a couple of months later. Many years ago I bought a HiFi (that long ago) and the payment wasn't taken. I sent them a cheque and they returned it because "I didn't owe them anything" Can't say I didn't try0

I had a charge for a hotel stay in Japan appear on my credit card 9 months after I had returned to the UK, having "paid" and received a receipt on checkout.0

A lot of us have experience - myself, a BP service station in Guildford which was 4 months.
As a budget nut, I noticed quickly and told them, but it was difficult to find someone to detail it to. Quite often, it can take 3 months for them to notice (quarterly reconciliation?) after which they do a manual submission.
Legally - as above, they have a number of years;
Morally - again, I told them, and then felt no more moral concern.Peter
Debt free - finally finished paying off £20k + Interest.0 -

Correct.
If they take the payment after 6 months (has to show date of original debit) you do have a chargeback right for late presentment if you are feeling evil....Life in the slow lane0 -
Ooh please do tell me more about chargeback right?0

Any chargeback attempt would fail as the retailer would simply challenge it as they would have proof they sold you the item.0

If the original debit date is shown on the transaction they can not reject it.. It is a technical breech of regulations.
One reason some retailer are naughty and change the date of the transaction...
Visa rules state that a transaction must be debited within 6 months. After that if they do debit, it can be challenged and they do not any recourse.
As I said if you are feeling evil. As you do still owe the debt...
If it was a online transaction then they have your details. If it is a in shop purchase, odds on all they have is card number.Life in the slow lane0
