Home insurance renewal - made a claim

My renewal for home insurance is due end of the month. I made a claim this year for building and contents damage. The claim was settled. I want to know if I can get quotes from other insurance companies. When I use comparison sites it just asks how many no claim years for which I select none. Do I need to tell them that I have claimed and how much if it doesn't ask.
Thanks

Not sure if this helps but we made a claim on our contents insurance for accidental damage to our computer. The total claim came to £1800.
We were advised by our insurers our premiums would rise by 15 percent. That would have increased the yearly amount to £325.00.

Because of claim we lost 2 years no claims discount so will go from 5 to 3 years.

We went via Confused.com and they wanted to know the date of the incident amount claimed etc. They came up with a quote from Halifax for £121 for the year.

Try Confused and see what they come up with.

BTW We are with Nationwide and they do not price compare so will leave them next month.

We have over 10 years of no claims until our water tank burst while on holiday. It ruined the carpets upstairs and came through the walls and wrecked half the kitchen. Our claim came to £6300 of damages. I tried moneysupermarket and also got a good price from Halifax. I just presumed that we had 0 years no claims as we had claimed. You can't choose the option to protect like with car insurance. There's nothing on my renewal about no claim years. So do I just need to ring my old insurers and ask.

No, you wouldn't but I believe all of the major comparison sites will ask for details if you've had a claim in the last 5 (perhaps 3) years. I'd be interested to know which one you think doesn't.

If it's one you've used before then double check they've not just assumed the answer to that question is still "no" from an earlier quote. I'm sure you won't be able to get any quotes back without confirming the details of any claims you've had. It's a key question for pretty much every insurer.
