Parking ticket at doctor

I took my 93 year old father to the GP last November. They were running late and then wanted him to have tests and as a result we were there for about 3 hours. As if that wasn’t bad enough I then got a parking ticket.
The surgery is in an area where there are a few shops. There are signs about only parking for 2 hours but a separate sign as you go to the surgery area saying parking for medical centre users and so I thought it was entirely separate.
I contacted the firm and explained what had happened. They have now sent me a further notice demanding that I pay within two weeks.

I’m not paying it and wonder what is likely to happen next or if there is anything I can do. TIA.

It is not the surgery that is charging me, but a private company.

Scroll to the bottom of post #1 of the NEWBIE sticky and you will find a standard letter written in blue text to be sent to the parking company. Send it as keeper with no alterations, additions or deletions. Was your ticket a windscreen one (NTD) or by post (NTK)?

It was sent by post. Thanks, I’ll look at it again.

it will in all certainty be the surgery that employ the scammers ... if it is not then they will know who does.

This is the easiest way to sort this early.

This advice was correct; I have no idea why you haven't simply done this! Who do you think is the principal, who contracted the scam parking firm?! The SURGERY.

There are LOADS of threads like this and of course the surgery can cancel it, one email and it's done.

If they are useless, complain to your MP and get him/her to lean on them.

Then use that information when you read the NEWBIE sticky to decide when to send the appeal - if complaining to the Surgery does not work.

Of course. This is their agent! You need to follow it up, though, to make sure.
