Best 10 Day Holiday

Me and fiance are wnating to go on a 10 day holiday over Easter this year, we will have been together for 10 years and its also her 30th.

Our problem is that we cant decide where. We did think Croatia but then realised we would need to fly drive really to see it all, which is fine but all the fly drives we have seen have a lot packed into the 10 days it just feels like it would all be rushed.

We have budget of about £1000 for flights an hotels each. We are flexible for the right holiday we are just unsure where.

We arent the sort of people to just want to chill at the pool or beach for 10 days, we want enough so we can go out soak up the culture and explore different places and have a few days mooching around if we wish.

Where would you recommend?

What do you mean "see it all", you can't possibly see all of any "proper" country in 10 days, certainly not Croatia! Pick an area eg Istria with possibly a side trip to Venice (you cen get a ferry), or Split/Dubrovnik& the islands.

Or Sorrento area in Italy - perfect for a 10 day holiday - loads to see and do, Pompeii, Herculanum, Vesuvious, Amalphi coast, Caprii, Naples. And public transport is good for all those places so no need for a car if you base in Sorrento.
  • I second Sorrento, lots to do and see and, if planned well, day trips can be done easily and cheaply on local transport.
  • I also agree with Italy, but I would stay in Positano (if it is the main holiday season, if not Sorrento is a travel hub.)

Some excellent suggestions. Alternatively, you could head for Sarajevo and surrounding areas in Bosnia: costs there are significantly lower than in Italy, so your budget would make you rich there.

My last two holidays were Ukraine and Georgia: I would strongly recommend both for people keen on the kind of things they offer.

Another possibility is to do a split centre holiday. We've done Prague/Budapest, Krakow/Warsaw and Venice/Milan. Fly into one place then take a train and fly back from the other.:)

If you're happy to drive once you're there - how about a leisurely wander up the Douro (Portugal), staying at the Vintage House ( https://www.vintagehousehotel.com/) followed/preceded by some nights in pousadas (https://www.pousadas.pt/uk/promotion?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI-7q2ioWB5wIVWeDtCh3dOAMbEAAYASABEgIZavD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds) . That's what we did for our 25th wedding anniversary and I would do the same again at the drop of a hat. The pousadas are stunning buildings and the food is incredible!

.... and that was in April.

Agree 100%. Bosnia & Herzegovina is a fascinating country, and very thought provoking. The Yugoslav War in the 1990s has left many visual scars. In Sarajevo in particular they are evident on almost every building that was standing at the time. Noontheless the city is very vibrant and young with a bustling centre and old town.

A great 2 hour or so rail journey is between Sarajevo and Mostar. Mostar being another place with a very visual bloody past. Pass through mountains, valleys, rivers, villages, loads of tunnels, over bridges, see farmers and local country folk going about their business, often shrouded in an eerie mist....absolutely gorgeous

Excellent value for money, as are other places in that region such as Transylvania in Romania, rural Bulgaria, and Macedonia Lake Ohrid in particular.
