Aqua Cashback Card

in Credit cards
Hi all
Does anyone have any experience of this?
I'm a Tandem customer who will let their card be cancelled on 9th March. Things I really liked about my Tandem card:
- cashback
- push notifications
- using abroad (though have another card can use for this)
Looking for a replacement and the Aqua card seems most obvious choice. Everything I read about it though says their cards are for people looking to rebuild their credit score. This isn't me. I use a credit card for monthly spending and pay the full amount each month. Would I be harming my score by applying to Aqua (implying I need to rebuild it)?
Have looked at Amex, but worried there'll be places in my town I can't use it which will make it annoying having to use 2 cards each month for regular spending.
Shame about Tandem decision. No point me staying, will end up paying to use the card and, as much as I like it, it's not worth that.

When aqua say it for people to rebuild credit scores, they mean they will accept people with poor histories.
The card will appear on your files like any other. Any change in the scores can disregarded.
I would go for Amex and have aqua as a backup. The aqua card will have a low limit.0 -
I used to have Amex knocked back a lot but these days almost everyone accepts it, just FYI.0

i have aqua and use it for everything. I have a good credit score. for the first three months limit was £900 and it has been increased automatically to approx 2.5k since then. been with them a year nearly no problems.
i pay back everything i spend as i spend it and please remember that if you miss a payment, dont pay back the minimium or go over your limit the stop you being able to get cashback.
the cash back is paid annually to a max of £100 per annum0 -

You have echoed my thoughts exactly.
My Tandem cashback card will also be redundant after 9th March, due to the fees outweighing the benefits.
I do have a Nationwide Select credit card which offers free overseas spending, and my Tandem was the back up (also gave me both a Visa and Mastercard)
Looking at all the alternatives, I went for the Aqua card as a replacement.- Almost guaranteed acceptance
- Free overseas spending
- 0.5% cashback
The small initial credit limit is not a problem to me as it is only for use as a back up.
(Although as already mentioned, Aqua do increase the limits over time)
The eye watering (34.9%) interest rate is also irrelevant as the card will be paid off in full whenever it is used.
One advantage Aqua does have is that they allow you to have a second cardholder, something we did miss with Tandem.0 -
Very useful replies, thank you.
I agree IvanDP, I like the almost guaranteed acceptance of Mastercard over Amex. I have Nationwide Select too, but don't want to over complicate things by having to keep an eye on 2 cards for monthly spending. Just looked at how much I spent on Tandem last year and it went over the £3000 min required for Amex for cashback, but only because of some spending on house improvements. If I take my average monthly spend, it's not so guaranteed to exceed £3000, especially if some purchases can't be made because it's not accepted (in my preferred local independent coffee shop for example).
Decision made - Aqua it is. Thank you.0 -
I am currently with Aqua, been with them for almost 1 year now. My initial credit limit was £900, which increased twice over the past year, now it's £3.6k.
I don't know where to view how much cash am I getting back though, where can I find this?0 -
I assume your reward total will be on your monthly statement...I work within the voluntary sector, supporting vulnerable people to rebuild their lives.
I love my job

One more small question......
What happens to the cashback if you pay in full every month?
I know with my Nationwide card, it is credited before you receive the statement, so a nice little bonus when it comes to paying the December bill every year
Is this the same with Aqua?0 -
I'm in the same boat, I have a Tandem card too. I applied for an Amex last month which will be my main card and I've just applied for Aqua cashback as a backup where Amex isn't accepted. Hopefully Aqua will be up and running before March.
I think Aqua will be receiving a lot of new customers in the new few months thanks to Tandem, I hope they won't introduce any new fees...0
