Cancelling BT Sport in contract

Hi Guys,
This is my first post on here and I would like some advice about cancelling BT Sport within contract.
About 6 months ago, I signed up for BT Sport on an 18 month contract, at £17.99 per month. I work for Sky and recently had BT Sport added free as part of my staff perks. Sky stated that I would need to handle any existing contract with BT.
So, I phoned BT and asked to cancel and they said I would need to pay a termination fee - fair enough. However, the termination fee was £200.56! According to their terms and conditions, a cancelation fee of £19.50 per month remaining applies. As I am paying £17.99 per month, this amounts paying the full term, whether I continue or not.
They did offer me a new contract of £15 per month for 2 years!.
Terms and conditions aside, this seems like an extortionate amount, and effectively commits any customers to the full term.
I have tried arguing with BT but got nowhere. Do I have any means to reduce the termination fee?
Any suggestions are welcome.

Surely if you work for Sky you would know this is pretty much the norm. What would be the point of an 18 month contract if you were able to leave at any point.
Breaching a contract means you are liable for their losses which is the remaining payments.0 -

Any cancellation fees will be based on the full fee (minus VAT I think) which is why it work out less than you're paying. The T&C's that you agreed to should state all of this.Terms and conditions aside
Are you getting BT Sports as part of the new Sky Sports complete package? (or whatever they call it)
Is it still 29/01/2020 when it launches for the public?0 -

I agree the OP's story is not convincing, though.0 -

Has it, I wasn't aware of that.0 -

if a Sky customer took an 18 month contract out, then after 6 months decided , for whatever reason, to cancel, I don’t suppose Sky ( your employer) would waive the ETC, they would point at the T&C’s and say you signed up freely, and have an obligation , so ( unfortunately for you ) it’s either pay the ETC , which is based on the non discounted price per month, or keep paying the discounted price until the minimum term expires.
Sky ‘selling’ BT Sport directly has been in the offing for ages, ( much longer than 6 months) If Sky give their employees ‘free’ TV, including premium stuff like sport, perhaps it would have been better to take the 1 month BT option if you were likely not to fulfill a minimum term with BT , granted that is not much use to you now0 -
A musing ... could requesting a non-discounted amount as an ETC (where the contract is for a discounted amount) be construed as an unfair contract term?
Nevertheless, if the OP has 12 months left to run on the contract then BT are asking for ~£16.71 per month as an ETC ... less than the £17.99 the OP is currently paying.1
