Clothes air dryers

Hi all, I have a 2.2kwh tumble dryer and I'm looking to reduce my electricity consumption regarding drying the washing.
For most loads the tumble dryer is on for about an hour.
However most of the air dryers I'm reading reviews for it takes a out 6 hours to dry and the clothes have to be rotated several times.
To me have an 300w air dryer on for 6 hours = 1.8kw compared to the tumble dryer doesn't seem worth the hastle.
Does any one have any recommendations on a decent air dryer that can be efficient and cheap to run.
Thanks

We use one of these and ditched the tumble drier all together (when our washer/drier died)0 -
I assume the OP is talking about floor standing electric airers similar to this https://www.lakeland.co.uk/21736/Dry%3ASoon-Standard-3-Tier-Heated-Tower-Airer
I cobbled together something similar using a standard airer and a fan heater. It does dry clothes reasonably quickly, but only if they are moved around on the airer. I did drape a sheet over to help direct the heat, and a sheet is breathable (see comment on Lakeland reviews).0 -
In good weather, place outside. In bad weather, place in kitchen.0

I dont have a tumble dryer so i cant do a cost comparison for you but ive got one of the dry:soon electric dryers. I use it on and off for about 2 months of the year - its folds quite flat and store it under the sofa in the conservatory for the rest of the time.
I am glad I got the cover with it (it was a free addition when I bought it) as I have to say its pretty useless as a dryer without it. With the cover its great, it creates a kind of heat tent.
Heavy stuff like jeans dry as well as lighter stuff. There is a control for off, on permanently, switch on in x hours or switch off in x hours.
I have it placed in front of a radiator in a spare bedroom so sometimes just use it instead of my airer without the cover of course when the central heating is on anyway so might as well be used to dry clothes (window on catch to stop condensation etc)
Hope this helps.0 -
we use these and it cuts down the drying time by around 20%

Anybody else remember the Flatley? Why a modern equivalent hasn't been produced I don't know. Or perhaps it has and I have just missed it.

As explained in the article, modern equivalents have been produced in the form of tumble dryers. More efficient and less likely to cause fires.0 -
Heat pump dryers are down to under 1.5kwh for a full load.
Condenser/vented usually over 4.75kwh.
What sort of space options have you got for hanging?0 -
I use a 20 watt electric fan. No need for heat.0
