Refund on New Debit Card

My son bought a mobile phone last summer. The price was less than £70. It became faulty very quickly so he attempted to return it. They wouldn't entertain him. I took over and they said to contact their tech team to get a code. Did that - they said it was beyond repair and to take it into the store.
As this was going to be the 4th visit, I contacted their complaints department 1st.This was because the card he bought the phone on was lost but he had a replacement card with same bank/ account number/ sort code but different 16 digit number.
They say they'll need the original card. I contacted Trading standards and they said that the refund CAN be put on the new card. Has anyone else had any experience of this?

Store are right, it is their procedure. That they need to refund to old card. They should be able to get that off their systems from when he bought it.
If not, he will have to ask his bank for the old card number and Exp.
    Anti money laundering/fraud measures.

    Trading standards should know better....

It will then go to a internal bank account and be transferred to his bank account.

  • Thanks born again. After a clearout, card has been found however it's cancelled. What happens in this case?

As I said it will be processed to that card number (credits do not require authorisation) It will hit one of the banks internal accounts where stopped card payments go. They will then process it to your son's account. Can take a while.

Make sure you get the refund receipt from the retailer in case of any issues.
