You're right, most people don't see hospital opthalmic consultants. I never, ever have.

    Because I've never needed to.

Apart from one casualty visit when I scratched a retina with a tree (don't ask!), the nearest my eyes have ever been to the medical profession is a visit to Vision Express every other year. And I don't have any issue with the brightness of other drivers' lights... But, then, I'm not quite 50 yet.

Some bikers prefer to use main beam during the day, to enhance their visibility in a sea of DRLs.
They're wrong to do so, but I can understand their reasoning.

That in and of itself suggests problems.

Were they simply referring to how well you read the chart?

Regarding the first part, yes obviously. And they will cause accidents.

As for the second part, your comment borders on offensive. The irony is that on forums such as this one, if someone says bright car lights dazzle them, the more aggressive keyboard warriors will say “you need your eyes examined”. I’ve had my eyes examined, found to be in excellent health, and you tell me that suggests problems. :rotfl:

Have they stopped training people learning to drive NOT to look at oncoming lights.....

Look slightly away from them and they do not blind you. Simple really.....

Your eyesight is so good you are seeing an eye specialist and wear glasses. That makes perfect sense...

I wear glasses for general use, and contact lenses for ice hockey. When buying glasses and contacts, you have an exam. Many people may have a concern about their eyes which requires a check. I had a concern about retinal detachment, which is serious. None was found. Perhaps if you had thought a bit more before posting, you could have found many reasons why healthy eyes might be checked.

Nope. Really bright ones are not so easy to ignore, and that’s the problem.

Most evenings I have to drive home along country B roads with my rear view mirror inverted because some clown behind me is lighting up the interior of my car. I always end up following someone doing 50 in a 60 which results in someone following me too, so it's not like I can put my foot down to get some distance from them.
When a following vehicle is too close, the correct action is to slow down, not speed up.

The guys that design the vehicles and set the standards seem to think they are ok so that would suggest the problem is localised. I'd be inclined to agree.

UNECE standards. NHTSA standards. JASIC standards.

They're the three basic sets which pretty much cover the entire globe - and none of them see a great issue.

They are not too close, it's just their lights are too high. Slowing down won't resolve that problem.
