Trip booked 4 month ago, insurance advice needed

I have booked a trip through Intrepid to visit Turkey in June this year. Given the recent political tension in Iran, I am concerned that when the time comes for my trip, it might be an inappropriate time to visit the country. Here is the bug bearer. I paid a deposit for the trip in September and I have not taken out any travel insurance. There are also flights in place, booked on behalf of Intrepid. Given it is now January, I would like someone to please highlight any insurance options that are available to me, and whether I can be covered for unrest or my own personal concern even though I have not booked insurance at the time of paying a deposit. The amount is to be paid by April. I was hoping there may be a policy out there that could cover me for any of these hiccups especially since I have only paid a deposit. Thank you in advance.

If there are no current warnings against travel to the areas you are travelling to, there should be no problem with taking out insurance now. Not taking out insurance as soon as travel costs are incurred is a very high risk strategy, so get insurance immediately.
  • Are there any insurers you recommend given the circumstances?

I’m not sure what you mean by personal concern but you will not be covered for disinclination i.e. changing your mind, if it’s safe to travel.
The FCO (foreign and commonwealth office) will say whether it’s safe of not and don’t casually tell people not to travel.

I had a trip booked to Egypt a few weeks after 9/11 and Cancellation would have been a total loss if we’d decided to change our minds.

In the event the locals were very sympathetic and desperate for business (with tourist numbers being sharply down).

I sympathise but no insurance will let you cancel just because you are concerned. You can see that would be very open to fraud.

I would say get a good insurer and not the cheapest (I use insure & go) but nothing will help with the fact that you’re insuring late or might be concerned,

    Sorry, I sympathise.
In future you should get insurance at booking time (or straight after) as something can happen right after booking, for example you might get run over leaving the travel agents. The risk starts when you book and it isn’t more expensive to do it early.

I wouldn't worry too much about any fall out from Iran impacting on Turkey.
Be shocked if you go beyond Gerome with Intrepid.
When everything was kicking off in Syria/Aleppo, Turkey was still a safe travel option and thats a lot closer than Iran.
Intrepid won't run the tour if there was any risk at all.
Still get travel insurance ASAP, something else might crop up, just read the cancellation policy and make sure it covers all the activities you're likely to do.

    Enjoy Turkey, beautiful country :)

Forget the issue with Iran for one minute.

What would happen if you became ill (your God forbid) between now & June which meant you couldn't travel ?

For goodness sake get travel insurance ASAP.

I strongly believe that any travel bookings should only be allowed to be accepted provided insurance has been bought
