Credit card transactions take longer to show up

Hi I've got a nationwide debit and credit card.
If I use the debit card the transaction appears straight away in the pending section.
On the credit card it takes 2/3 days to appear.
Does anyone know why?
I kinda like it to be up to date.

Sorry, but this isn't completely clear. You've said that the debit card transaction appears straight away as a 'pending transaction'. That doesn't mean the transaction has come through, or that the money has been taken; just that the retailer has sought authorisation and the funds have been ring-fenced.
The fact the credit card transaction doesn't show as a 'pending transaction' might just be because Nationwide doesn't show 'pending transactions' for its credit card product and it just shows up when it clears a few days later - can anyone enlighten us as to whether this is correct?
I imagine that both types of transaction actually 'clear' at the same time, as they are almost certainly processed through to Nationwide in exactly the same manner, but I could accept that Nationwide might have a different approach to the way it then posts those transactions for differing products.0 -
Debit card systems update as the day goes on. Credit card systems tend to update once a day.
Strange that a pending transaction does not display, but that could simply just be on their app/online. But will have the correct available balance on the system the staff can see.Life in the slow lane0 -
The question that needs to be answered is 'Does Nationwide show pending transactions for credit cards?'0

I have both Nationwide debit card (current account) and credit card. They don't show pending transactions for the credit card, but they do with the debit card. However, pending credit card transactions do affect your balance available, i.e. the sum of Balance + Available is sometimes less than the Credit limit, the difference being the pending transactions. [Personally I track everything in YNAB so I always know exactly what transactions aren't yet cleared, but this is a bit off topic.]
In terms of timescales, there's also a difference when transactions will clear. Debit card transactions clear the next weekday, usually around 4pm. Nothing clears on your debit card on Saturdays, so Friday's transactions will have cleared Monday evening. However credit card transactions only update once a day overnight and so there is an extra day's lag. Also, credit card transactions do come through on a Saturday but never on a Monday. So Friday's transactions will clear on Tuesday morning.
Edit: When I say "clear" I mean transactions will appear in the transaction listing in the Nationwide app/online banking and affect your account balance, just in case that wasn't obvious.0 -

Yes, I have both and it's the same for me. Just for information, Nationwide credit cards are actually operated by a separate company so that might have some bearing on why there is a difference between the two. I would have thought it would be possible to show credit card pending transactions in this day and age, but I get the feeling it isn't a priority for Nationwide.0 -
So based on the above question answered.
The transactions take longer to show up on the credit account because pending transactions are not shown.0 -
I don’t believe that Nationwide directly runs their credit card system - they rely on a 3rd party.0
