Insurance repair process

Does anyone work for an insurance company. Another driver hit my car, when my car gets fixed via the insurance does it go to the approved garage of my insurance company or theirs?

The reason I ask is because the garage used by my insurance company is a very good one and I would be want it to go there. Does my insurance sort it in regards to the repairs then they claim it back from theirs insurance. What's the process?

  • You'll probably have to pay your excess and use your insurance if you want to use that garage.

Is your preferred garage on the insurer's list? If so, nothing to do.

Are you claiming from your insurer, or directly from theirs? Theirs are likely to give more flexibility.

my insurers have been notified on a non fault accident. I assume the other party will contact theirs to report an fault accident. Then what happens? I take it the 2 insurance companies talk but who determines what garage it goes to mine or theirs as I like the one mine uses.

I thought maybe mine will sort the repair going to their garage and then they claim from the other insurer of the person who hit me???

Your insurers have been notified... but which are you actually claiming from?

I have no idea, I am assuming like I said now the 2 insurers will talk and work it out after giving all the details to my insurer. I don't remember in the past years ago when someone drove into the back of me at light having to contact the other person insurers to make a claim?

Who did you send the completed claim form to...?

    So you're claiming from yours.

You don't have to - but if they accept liability, it makes everything much easier if you do so. Especially if you want to insist on a particular repairer. Your contract with your insurer probably requires you to use theirs, or washes their hands of certain aspects if you don't. Claiming from yours is also far more likely to put you in the hands of a credit hire company, and they're slugs of the first order...

why would I claim from mine if it was not my fault?
Surely that would mean it would cost me?
I have not had any form as yet to complete

I only wanted to know what the process was when even though its their fault would my insurer sort my car out therefore using their approved garage and then claim back or would their insurers dictate which garage. They have already said its their fault.

Because it's the easiest. You've got their details. You know it's getting paid.

No, because the insurers deal amongst themselves as to who's paying.

Then you probably haven't actually claimed.

Your insurer won't do anything unless you claim from them.

Whichever insurer you claim through is the one who arranges the repairs and any courtesy car.

You put the claim to your insurer, they will authorise repairs to your car and recover the sum from 3rd party insurers. Assuming 3rd party don’t change their view on admitting fault.

You can decide to get the repairs done at any garage.
