You can get some cracking deals to Turkey even with the big tour operators - we booked a week with TUI in a top rated hotel B&B inc flights, transfers etc for about £550 for 2 of us (£275 pp) in the May half term last year. Booked about a month before - booking late seems to get the best prices. But obviously choice may be more limited.0

My favourite is Dalyan. Haven't been for some years so hope it is still a really Turkish town (rather than holiday resort.)
Short transfer from Dalaman airport
By river, take dolmus (shared minibus) to beach, walk alongside river, take boat upstream to mudbaths & market.
Pretty scenery.Being polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!

You can't go far wrong with Turkey. Hundreds of miles of coastline down the Aegean, Bodrum Peninsula, and east along the Mediterranean Coast as far as Alanya.
Have a look at the Bodrum area, Lara Beach near Antalya, Side, or Fethiye. All are pretty damn good with fairly short Airport transfers.
Personally, the further away from the 'in your face' tourist areas you spend your time, the more you'll enjoy the Turkey experience.
Don't rule out Istanbul, one if the World's great cities, or Cappadocia a complete one off.0
