steaming a gammon

For reason I will not go in to I have not had the oven on today.

Anyway husband is about to make a cake in our new shiny steamer (I know don't ask.)Now rather than put the oven for an hour an half I reckon that I can put the gammon in the steamer.

But for how long. If I boil it says 30 mins per 500g and this is 650g so about 39 mins to boil.

I reckon an hour in the steamer should be enough. The cake takes 35 mins. What do you reckon.

Many thanks in advance.

Yours

Calley

Gosh I haven't got a clue when it comes to speed and gammon. Google has nothing for steaming a gammon but if you google on "cooking a gammon" there are all sorts of recipes and stuff that you might get inspiration from.

Not quite sure about a steamer, but I usually double wrap in foil and put in a pan of boiling water and simmer for just over an hour. (same size joint)

Thanks. It is in the steamer on a bed of foil.

Just another 25 mins to go and then we should know if it is cooked.

How did it turn out Calley? Last time I tried this I steamed potatoes over the top and mashed them, you could have tarred the M5 with the result :D

    Moggins,

It looks cooked. Had a little nibble while carving it up last night and it tasted fine.

Funny that, I rarely have problems cooking stuff in my steamer.

And the cake was to die for. Should be, it had 5oz of 74% chocolate in it 4 eggs used marg instead of butter.

There are few recipes on the Tefal site including the yummy cake.

Which has now been sliced very thinly and is now residing in the freezer :rotfl:
