Equifax and electoral register

I have just discovered Equifax un enrols you from the electoral register which has halted my mortgage application. I couldn't quite clarify in my telephone conversation if this was down to the election in December or is an annual occurence, though I think it was the latter. None of the other main credit report companies seem to have done this (except one called creditiva). Their only solution was I put a Notice of correction on my report myself or wait until the end of January for the information to be updated when they receive it from councils. I don't see why they have to change a person's status until told otherwise. I've been at my address over 10 years. Beware seeking mortgage or credit in Jan incase this causes a refusaL.

  • There is another post about this - seems to be a common occurrence at the moment as it has happened to myself and husband too. Luckily it is a few more weeks until we put our mortgage application in but it is still frustrating.

  • It is my understanding that a credit reference agency can't take you off the electoral roll as this is between you and the council.

Have you checked your current listed address with Equifax? If could be that they have your registered on the electoral roll at your current home however they don't have it listed as your current address as this doesn't automatically update? Might be worth giving them a call and updating your home address just to be certain.

Have you checked your credit file with the other credit reference agencies to see what they have reflected for you?

There are so many posts about Equifax and the ER lately.
    Today is 11th January 2020.
Everybody who was on the ER in 2019 was not considered not to be on the ER any more at 0001 on 1st January 2020 because Equifax have not yet updated 2020 information.
If you were on the ER in 2019 your are still on it today.
OP. I would respectfully suggest that any problems you are encountering with the mortgage application which you say has been 'halted' have a different cause.

A CRA cannot remove you from the Electoral Roll, Only the council can do that.
  • Whilst Equifax are not showing your enrolement on the electoral you will still actually be enrolled. This has happened to me yesterday and i'm absolutely livid with Equifax. I cannot understand why the default setting is not the last bit of information the council had sent them which i believe in this case is October 2019. People will be applying for credit without even knowing this fault and something should be done about it. I have basically spent 13 months paying for Equifax just to make sure they are doing things correctly. A total of 36 disputes, none of which are fault of my own. Finally got it all sorted and the day i go to apply for a new morgage i notice somehow i'm no longer registered on the electoral. How can they get away with this. Surely the government need to take control of it. Why should i be paying money out to all agencies just to ensure they are using my data correctly.

I cannot confirm that Experian havn't done the same, i refuse to pay £14.99 just to check. I'm just going on what others have said.

Why are you paying the CRAs when you can access the data for free?

I'm in the same boat and also have the notice applied. My plan is to make a seperate complaint regarding the default setting that it automatically removes your status. No other company seems to do it so it surely cannot be law or data protection or whatever they may try to pass it off as.
  • I was getting the information for free until i noticed so many errors that needed resolving. I thought i had everything resolved and was about to cancel the subscription an refer back to the free version clearscore.
