Gas Meter incorrect address

Options
Hello,

So, previously, I was topping up my gas via a British Gas card. PayPoint was used to top up. All was fine until just recently I found out British Gas have switched from PayPoint to Payzone. This was when my issues topping up began.

My gas card was not being accepted by the Payzone machines in any of the stores I visited. So, I gave British Gas a call and they informed that my account had been closed since 2017. I was baffled and confused about this.

They told me that apparently some provider called "Octopus Energy" took over my account on February 11th 2017. I had not been informed of this change at all and I had not made this change myself. I was under the assumption that I was still with British Gas all this time as I was successfully topping up with their card. I was left completely speechless to find out I am no longer with them.

My gas supply ran out. I then gave Octopus Energy (never heard of them) a ring, gave them my details and they said no such account exists. Basically, according to them, they've not taken over my account. They were also baffled by this.

I was told to grab the gas meter number, which I did and gave it to the person on the call. After some waiting, the person came back and told me they did in fact own this meter, but it's not registered to my address. It's registered to another address (unstated).

Due to the fact the gas supply had depleted, he managed to send out an engineer to put some emergency credit on (£10). He told me to call back the next day for further instructions of how to proceed next.

I called back the next day and now they're saying they don't own the gas meter. I gave the same number that I gave to the person I called originally.

So now, I am unsure what to do next as no gas energy company seems to be taking responsibility for it as they are saying they don't own the meter. My gas supply will run out soon and with no way to top up, I'll be left without gas if I can't find a resolution.

Any idea what I need to do next? Who do I call?
