Unfair/inadequate Parcelforce Compensation

5 in 100 losses seems extremely high or should that have been 5 in 1000? My rate of losses is around 1 in 500 using a mixture of Royal Mail, UPS and DPD according to the size and weight. I never pay for extra insurance cover.. Every courier loses items, usually below 1% to 5%. As senders we have to decide if losing 5 parcels in 100 (PF will be nearer to 1%) is worth that extra insurance. I've always, at least mentally, factored in loss by courier in my business. In this case you've managed to get more than half the loss back.
Have I been extra lucky?0 -
At work we are currently running at 2 in 3500 for stuff we send out
For stuff we arrange collection from site we are running at 2 in 600. Both can be attributed to the Parcelforce driver not having the returns labels with him and later labelling items wrong.
For one we received a DMF clutch assembly instead of a notebook. We never did find that one.
For the other we received a box of clothes and books that were destined for HK instead of a workstation. We sent the box on to the shippers but never got our workstation back. We managed to track it all the way to HK because it was using the shippers original reference.0 -
TBH I barely have any lost parcels, I'm probably well below 0.1%.5 in 100 losses seems extremely high or should that have been 5 in 1000? My rate of losses is around 1 in 500 using a mixture of Royal Mail, UPS and DPD according to the size and weight. I never pay for extra insurance cover.

It's actually hard to find statistics on delivery percentages but I have seen in the past and some do (or did) have, as far as I recall, delivery around 95%. I think Parcelforce will be a lot higher but it still needs factoring in to what/how you sell. Retail stores factor in shrinkage from shoplifting and customer damage, etc, online sellers need to do similar ..0 -
Thank you all for your very wise replies... Much appreciated.0

Maybe 95% refers to the percentage of parcels that get there at the advertised time rather than meaning 5% never arrive? Many carriers offer a next working day service which is not guaranteed, just 'normally' next day.TBH I barely have any lost parcels, I'm probably well below 0.1%.

I couldn't find what I was looking for. There is info on when next day delivery fails, that can get lower.Maybe 95% refers to the percentage of parcels that get there at the advertised time rather than meaning 5% never arrive? I remember seeing one of the bigger couriers (I won't name them as I can't verify it) running at 92% delivered. This was when they were in a slump and have since improved. You are possibly right and I have conflated some information that the media had already corrupted..0
