Socially Responsible/Ethical Lifetime ISA?

Hi all,

I want to open a Lifetime ISA to help me retire early at 60 (I already have a pension maxxed out!)

I'm 32 so 5k will be invested every year for 18 years. Then the total will sit for another 10 years until I withdraw it.

I know that "socially responsible investing" is a grey term, but I would like to be as ethical as poss and avoid funding tobacco/arms etc. Can anyone suggest a good long-term SRI investment plan using a Lifetime ISA please?

Given the plan, I would prefer low-medium risk. But also unsure whether there is more risk with SRI-specific investing?

Thanks a lot in advance for any help! :starmod:

Surely you wouldn't want to take a 25% annual bung from the current Government? Unless, of course, you consider them socially responsible/ethical, what with a proven liar leading the show? :rotfl:

Unusual for a pension to be maxxed out at 32.
Do you mean you are a high earner and putting max £40K in a year ?

I consider myself to be an environmentalist, yet I have just bought shares in Shell.
Socially Responsible/Ethical shares may do well in the future, what with Australia burning, but which shares are ethical is up for debate.

What funds are your pension with? Do they meet your requirements?
How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)

SevenHills - I completely agree. There seems to be different stances on Shell e.g. ftse4good listing, the "you'll have to exclude every company that uses oil as well" narrative vs promoting pollution and evil oil barons. I'd be interested in your view! (The future is electric anyway! :))

Sea Shell - probably not. My work have a "green team" who are currently scrutinizing our pension scheme, so hopefully they'll help me with that one!

I do wonder if the anti-oilers brigade realise that BP is one of the largest operators of renewable energy businesses in the world.
And is one of the UK's leading providers of electric vehicle charging infrastructure.

Not sure if that'd match your risk profile though.

And agree with other posters it's a bit of a potential minefield. Depends on what you consider important ultimately..

Do you pay tax at basic rate or higher rate?

Other than that, just search trustnet for "ethical"

    https://www.trustnet.com/fund/price-performance/o/ia-unit-trusts?tab=myCustomTab&searchText=ethical&pageSize=25&sortby=P120m&sortorder=desc

Though I'd probably want to make sure the fund still has geographical balance.
