In a mess following erroneous transfer of gas & electricity

Options
I have just found out that my energy supply was transferred from Flow Energy to Scottish Power in August last year. Flow Energy has been taken over by Octopus which complicates matters I think. Octopus were very helpful and told me I am now with Scottish Power.

Scottish Power is not able so far to answer any of my queries as the supply is not even in my name. I have phoned them three times and they have promised to look into it and phone me back. They haven't.

So I can't find out what tariff I am on - I am wondering whether it would be possible to change to another supplier right now without waiting for Scottish Power to get its act together. Problem is I do not have details available of my usage over the last year as the Flow Energy site no longer exists.

When the switch took place I was not contacted by either Flow or Scottish Power. The supply is in the name of the previous owner of my bungalow, who emigrated to Canada after he sold his property to me. So any letters sent to him at this address would have been forwarded by Royal Mail.

Any advice would be welcome. I am over 80 and in a state of confusion about how on earth this could happen and what I can do now to get back in control of my outgoings. Also, my direct debit to Flow was cancelled (not by me) and I have not paid for any energy since August. Can Scottish Power charge me for usage at a greater rate than I was paying to Flow? Or (nice thought) as the supply is not in my name and I didn't arrange the transfer do I have to pay anything??

  • they have probably put you on a standard rate tariff. see what tariffs they offer and if any are suitable for you.

That should ring alarm bells. You're probably on a Deemed Tariff which will be mega expensive. You need to sort it out PDQ otherwise you'll be hit by a massive bill.

Octopus need to sort out your ET first..once that's been sorted you can switch to whoever you please.
As Octopus took over all of Flows customers they need to get this sorted for you..if they are unwilling open a complaint.
