Insurance area risk discrepancy

My car insurance is up for renewal. I currently live in London, and am moving to Birmingham imminently. By all available indicators, the area I'm moving to in Birmingham is lower risk (D to my current area F) yet I'm receiving much higher quotes for that area.
No information used for the quote is different, just the area. The car is even parked on a driveway in the new location, whereas here it's on a road.
Why am I being charged more in a lower risk area and with lower risk circumstances?

Where are you getting D and F 'risk area' from?
A car on a driveway doesn't always equate to lower premiums btw. A potential thief knows which house the keys are in......0 -

LOL, even putting the car in a locked compound costs more than "On the Road Away from Home"0

I promise you, insurers don't use that simple a rating structure for postcode rating.0 -
Fine, but I'm living in a pretty risky area now and moving to a pretty much middle class enclave. Doesn't make sense.
Anyway, I've found a decent quote now.0 -
The new area may have less vehicle crime but maybe everyone in that street claims for small scratches and keep crashing into their own fences/walls/gates etc?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0

The real explanation was much simpler: insurers can’t get an address match for me at that address yet, since I’ve only just moved.0

You've probably worked this out, but for the benefit of anyone following the link: that list is basically an internet urban myth. In reality postcode risk ratings are (a) a lot more complicated than that (down to individual streets, or groups of a few streets, rather than broad areas), (b) specific to each insurance company and (c) not published publicly. IIRC the list that does the rounds is the ratings which were used for motorbike insurance by one particular insurer (Aviva?) about 30 years ago. It has no relevance to modern car insurance prices and is only really used nowadays to attract Google clicks to dubious websites. Thanks for your response.

Postcode areas USED to be as simple as that!! Rating guides with a table. But then I'm going back to 1990!! in the days of local brokers and before computer quote systems.
It's all algorithms and big data now!!:(How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 3.24% of current retirement "pot" (as at end December 2025)0
