Messed around, refunded then item arrives help..

Hi all,
Last month I placed an order with a well known online menswear retailer and had an absolute nightmare with them, I spent £150 on a couple of items for Christmas and paid next day delivery, long story short they didn’t arrive, the retailer didn’t reply for days to queries and cries for help, TrustPilot reviews slated them also....anyhow eventual contact was made and they deemed the item lost and offered me a refund which then got delayed but did eventually come through 23 days after the order was made.....then....the items turn up a week after the refund, I emailed the retailer to advise of this and still have no reply so the items have been sat in their packaging for 4 weeks now and I do not intend to continue the merry go round chasing contact over an item that now has turned up and would prefer to donate them to a charitable cause...
Now...
Another order with a different online menswear retailer, same thing has happened again, and this retailer is part of the same group of companies as the original aforementioned retailer, item ordered, no delivery, item deemed lost then refunded and a few days after refund the item arrives....
MyHermes courier both times 🙄
Anyhow, when this item didn’t arrive I bought elsewhere and got what I wanted but now I’ve two of the same item, this item i would also like to donate to a charitable local cause, my question is....
Can I be charged again for the items finally arriving as i am in possession of their goods and them having refunded me as both orders were signed off as lost in transit ?
Is the contractual sale on both items over as I have been refunded and have emails saying “thank you for your return of item” even though I returned nothing as I hadn’t received anything originally, that must be a default reason issued to initiate a refund.
I just wish to know if I am ok to donate these items without fear of reprisals or is it best to just return them even though I’ve not been replied to or contacted since the refund was processed.
Thanks for any replies and sorry for the “long story short then continuing to waffle”

Thanks for your reply molerat
I fully expect to be charged for the items should I not return them, i am not sure on the law regarding a sale that’s ran to completion with the refund as I guess the retailer will have claimed from the courier also for their loss but I wanted to donate the item but morally I know it’s right to return the item and not behave like an internet Robin Hood, just shows how a poor courier company can cost businesses so much if it’s happened to me twice in just over a month.
Thanks again0
