High gas usage and potential meter fault code?
Comments
-
I have the same meter and I'm watching mine closely after it recorded a single 30 min period with 15x the usage of the previous & subsequent periods, and 7x higher than any other period before or since.
As a one-off glitch it isn't big enough of a problem to be worth raising a fault, but if it gets worse I'll have to report it.0 -
Good luck elementary, apparently only 7% of meter tests come back as faulty but sounds like yours should. At the very least you will have a new meter.
Any idea how much the test could cost ?
MWT keep taking regular readings (i read mine at least 4x a day now !) and photographs of the meter readings in case you need them for future evidence.
Surprisingly the video evidence i had of the meter going up 6m3 in 1 hour with the gas mains off nobody was interested in (ombudsman or energy company).
Only thing they really seem interested in is averages over longish periods.0 -

Try flagging it up to consumer programmes such as Moneybox, You and Yours, and Which?, not to mention MSE. If this model of meter can often fail so badly it needs to be widely publicised.
Agree. And if the issue is related to the condition of the battery then there's going to be a surge in cases of false reading as an entire generation of these meters reaches that point in their life.1 -
That was my thought ,talldave.
Anyone know when the first Landis + Gyr Libra 310p gas meters were installed ?0 -
Update.
The meter has been removed and sent for testing. It was still going up even after the engineer removed it!
Assuming it comes back faulty the test is free, if they say it's serviceable (impossible) it's £60-ish.0 -
Thanks for update, £60 for the test sounds reasonable for anyone whos suspicious of there meter readings. Sounds like yours will be free especially if meter was going up even after disconnecting.
If you get chance could u add to 'Rogue smart meters' thread.0 -

Update.
The meter has been independently tested and the results show it is defective. I'm now waiting to agree a way forward with the energy company.1 -
Thanks for the update. This isn't looking very good for Landis+Gyr. I wonder when the accuracy spirals out of control relative to the battery condition, and whether the battery condition is reported to the DCC?
