Private Purchase Help

in Credit cards
Hi
Can someone give me some advice please
I'm hoping to purchase a item from a private seller on Gumtree
The seller is willing for me to collect the item not a problem but I live over 250 miles away so I would like it posted
Unfortunately the seller doesn't have PayPal and said he would post it out if I do a bank transfer
Now if I was to pay from my capital one card into his bank account will I be covered if he doesn't send the goods??
Like I said he said I can collect so he might be genuine but I've got no cover if I do a straight bank transfer
Any advice would be great
Thanks

You can't make a payment from your Capital One credit card into the sellers bank account.0

Don't do a bank transfer. You'll never see the item or the money again.
PayPal is simple to get, so it's a big red flag if he refuses.0 -
Safer to collect and pay cash - aside from the fact that you can't pay him from your card, once he has the money there is nothing to make him post the item.I’m a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Pensions, Annuities & Retirement Planning, Loans

[STRIKE]Safer to collect and pay cash[/STRIKE] could be mugged on doorstep, house burgled while away >>>
Safer to collect and pay by cheque , surely ..
But yeah, paypal is easy BUT does have fees ... say you'll pay the paypal fees ...She might "find" a paypal account0 -
Possibly in theory but an entirely moot point because no seller in their right mind would hand over goods in exchange for a cheque being presented on their doorstep!Safer to collect and pay by cheque , surely ..
Sending a cheque in advance to allow clearance prior to collection would be possible but this just presents the same issues for the buyer as paying by bank transfer....0 -
Unless you are prepared to travel to collect then I suggest you forget it.0

Seller is being unfairly treated here. It's the OP who can't collect a collection item. They are quite right to want a bank transfer as even if they did have Paypal he would be mad to accept it, it's the paypal buyers who use this type of scam.
If I was wanting the item posted this would be the fair way to do it. There are still plenty of honest people out there.0 -
