Universal credit and apprenticeship

  • Hi, I need a little advice please. My 20 year old daughter (21 in Jan 2021) has managed to secure an apprenticeship for level 3 beauty. She is qualified to level 2 so able to work, but there are no jobs available for level 2. The wages are awful, albeit better than nothing at £4:15 an hour. She needs to travel by car (as remote location) 40 miles a day, 60 miles when she goes to college 3 days a month.  She currently lives at home and we are not charging her rent, but struggling as she is one of 4 children we support. Does anyone know if she would be eligible for any benefits to top up her wages as she has only just started and will have to live on £4:15 a year until she is nearly 22. I have a horrid suspicion that as she is not over 25, we as parents need to continue to support her. We don't claim any benefits as a family, both parents work. Any help and advice would be gratefully received.  Thank you :)

Please start your own thread - posting on the end of an old thread causes confusion because we read the previous OP’s question first.
Having said that, all the advice given to original OP appears relevant. Read the links and use a benefit calculator.
Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.
