Credit card 0% interest purchase offer

Options
I’m about to apply for a Halifax classic credit card. It says ‘ Purchases will be interest free for the first 6 months from account opening. You must stay within your credit limit to keep your promotional offer. You must also make your repayments on time.’ I thought this meant I could make a purchase and not pay any interest on it for 6 months as long as I pay the minimum payment each month. But in the summary box it says ‘interest free period Maximum 56 days for purchases.’ I’m a bit confused, can anyone explain how it works

The 56 days refers to if you clear it in full ,you don't pay interest.

You won't be clearing in full, so you will be charged interest at the relevant rate 0f 0%.

If you clear within 6 months, interest will total £0.
  • The majority of cards can be interest free for up to 56 days IF you pay the outstanding balance in full AFTER the statement is generated. The 6 months interest free is a promotion that means anything you purchase within those first 6 months wont incur any interest until the 6 months has elapsed. Of course if you are carrying a balance after the first 6 months you will then start to pay interest on whatever balance your carrying.

I think?? I'm right with that although not being familiar with Halifax Classic card somebody is sure to correct me if I've got it wrong.

Oh ok I think I get it. I would have paid it off within the 6 months. So once the 6 months ends, when I make other purchases, if I pay my balance off in full every month, will I not be charged interest? Hope that makes sense. I’m just a bit confused about the ‘56 days no interest’ because I thought as long as you pay off your balance in full every month you won’t be charged interest anyway?

Correct. As long as you either have a 0% promo, or you clear in full each month, you'll pay no interest.
